DocuSys Announces Appointment of New Senior Management StaffHealthcare Industry Veterans Robert E. Watson, Joseph E. Heins Join DocuSys
MOBILE, Ala., Aug. 14 (HSMN NewsFeed) -- DocuSys, Inc., a leading provider of anesthesia information management systems (AIMS) and drug management systems, announces the appointment of new senior management staff with the addition of two healthcare IT veterans.
Robert E. Watson has joined the company as president and chief executive officer (CEO). Joseph E. Heins has joined the company as executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO). Robert Hanson, who previously served as president and CEO, is now vice chairman.
"We are excited to have Robert and Joseph join the DocuSys team, bringing with them exceptional leadership capabilities and healthcare experience," said DocuSys Chairman of the Board Donald Weiss. "Their track record in successfully leading companies to the forefront of the industry is outstanding, and we are confident in their ability to position DocuSys for many years of successful growth. The knowledge they have of the healthcare industry will benefit our clients through a focused approach of providing exemplary customer service and product direction."
Watson brings more than 25 years of experience as a senior executive in the healthcare software industry. Before joining DocuSys, he was executive vice president of Business Development of Concuity, a healthcare division of Trintech, Inc. Prior to that position, he was president and CEO at Concuity Inc, which was acquired by Trintech, Inc. in December 2006.
Prior to joining Concuity in 2001, Watson was acting CEO of HealthTrac Corporation, CEO of IQHealth at Cerner Corporation and has been the founder or senior executive of several successful healthcare organizations throughout his career. He holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Health Policy Studies and Information and Library Science from Syracuse University.
"The DocuSys safety technology represents an opportunity for success in the growth market of anesthesia information technology," Watson said. "I look forward to working with Joe Heins and the balance of the management team to advance the company's position as the market leader in anesthesia information and drug delivery systems. By blending superior client services and industry leading technology, DocuSys will remain the AIMS market leader."
As COO, Heins is responsible for DocuSys' engineering, regulatory, quality assurance, product management, implementation, and support organizations. He has nearly 20 years of diverse upper management experience in the healthcare industry, including strategic planning/business development, product management, operations and sales/marketing.
Prior to joining DocuSys, Heins was senior vice president of the Product Solution Group at Eclipsys Corporation. He also spent eight years at Cerner Corporation, where he held U.S. and international-based management positions. Heins served as a member of the Canada ePrescribing (CeRx) Standards Group, Canada Health Infoway during 2004 and 2005. Additionally, he held sales and business development positions with several other healthcare information technology companies, after his initial years of clinical practice in ambulatory care and home infusion therapy.
Heins holds a Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of the Pacific, School of Pharmacy, Stockton, California, and a post-graduate residency in Clinical Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina.
"Having spent the majority of my career focused on medication safety, the chance to join Bob Watson in leading the DocuSys team in continuing their visionary leadership of the anesthesia information management and anesthesia drug management marketplaces was a compelling opportunity," Heins said. "The anesthesia market is at a similar early adopter position that the computerized physician order entry (CPOE) market was five years ago, and the need to provide advanced safety solutions for the anesthesia team is critical, as highlighted by the U.S. Pharmacopeia's MEDMARX® Data Report on perioperative medication errors earlier this year. Additionally, we are updating and enhancing current operational processes to ensure that we continue to deliver world-class service and support for our clients. Our goal is to exceed the expectations of our clients and the anesthesia industry."
DocuSys is the first company to provide comprehensive digitization of anesthesia by merging two of the most critical components of patient care -- drug delivery and clinical information -- maximizing both the quality of care and return on investment in surgery. The system incorporates customizable decision support, professional fee capture, comorbid condition documentation and an intravenous drug monitor, DocuJect®, which uses bar-coding and digital imaging to automate documentation, tracking and billing of drugs. DocuSys' modular design permits integration with existing hospital information systems, electronic drug dispensing cabinets, infusion pumps, physiologic monitors and other systems in those settings where intravenous drug delivery is key. www.docusys.net .
