John Hart Named President and Chief Executive Officer of NiTi Medical Technologies, Inc.

Executive to guide global commercialization of cutting-edge product line

NEW YORK, Jan. 10 (HSMN NewsFeed) -- NiTi Medical Technologies, Inc. today announced that John Hart, a proven leader with more than 26 years of management, sales and operations experience in the medical device marketplace, has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Hart will be responsible for guiding the company through the worldwide introduction of its innovative line of internal tissue closure devices, including a full range of compression anastomosis clips, rings and appliers.

"John is a dynamic leader, focused on increasing sales, market share and profitability," said Eitan Nahum, Executive Chairman, NiTi. "Having already received both FDA and EU clearance for the lead products in our development pipeline, his experience will serve NiTi well as we move into the next phase of commercialization."

Prior to joining NiTi, Mr. Hart held senior management positions at Stryker Orthopaedics, a $2.5 billion global division of Stryker Corporation, and the Auto Suture Division of US Surgical/Tyco Healthcare, a $1.2 billion global division focused on the general and laparoscopic surgical endomechanical markets. Earlier in his career, he held a number of marketing, sales, business development and manufacturing leadership positions with Johnson & Johnson (Ethicon and Cordis), C.R. Bard, Kimberly Clark and US Surgical.

A Talented International Sales Team

Mr. Hart joins a seasoned team of professionals, including Kevin Bailey, Vice President of US Sales, and Stuart Hendry, Vice President of European Sales.

Mr. Bailey has over 17 years of experience in the medical device market with his most recent post being with NuVasive, Inc., as a sales management executive in the dynamic spine market. In this capacity, he was instrumental in replacing and developing a strong network of distributors in an area that was historically under-performing. Before this, Mr. Bailey held senior sales, marketing and management positions at Power Medical Interventions, Scimed Life Systems/Boston Scientific and Ethicon Endo-Surgery.

Mr. Hendry brings with him over 20 years of extensive experience within the medical device industry. Prior to joining NiTi, he served as the director of sales and new business development at Nikomed, Ltd., a Femcare medical device company, where he was responsible for the development and implementation of the company's growth strategy, specialty team re-structuring and direct sales and territory management teams. Previously, he also held senior management positions in international planning and European sales and marketing at Imagyn Medical/Imagyn Medical Technologies, Inc.

The NiTi Promise: Advancing Tissue Closure

Gastrointestinal (GI) surgery for cancer and other disorders of the GI tract often involves removing a section of intestine, followed by re- connecting the remaining ends to form a junction (anastomosis) that restores digestive continuity. Anastomosis is currently achieved in the great majority of cases through the use of surgical staples and stapling devices.

Through its pioneering combination of surgical and engineering expertise, NiTi has developed and is commercializing a new generation of surgical devices that provide excellent tissue closure -- without the use of staples -- based on clips and rings made of the shape memory alloy nitinol.

NiTi's simple and easy-to-use system produces a nearly seamless, continuous tissue connection by harnessing a healing process known as compression anastomosis. Once the tissue has healed, the ring or clip is expelled from the body, naturally and harmlessly. In animal studies, the result is a strong, leak-proof, almost invisible seal that is far less prone to scarring and intestinal blockage than that seem with stapling. In patients, clinical trial results indicate that NiTi's devices yield faster recovery times and shorter hospital stays. To date, more than 150 cases have been performed successfully worldwide.

NiTi Medical Technologies, Inc. is a venture-backed US-Israeli medical technology company headquartered in New York with manufacturing, research and development based in Netanay, Israel.
