Spacelabs Medical Launches Clinical Event Interface for Secondary Alarm Notification

BOCA RATON, Fla. & ISSAQUAH, Wash.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Feb. 14, 2006--Spacelabs Medical, a global leader in patient monitoring systems, announced the launch of its new Clinical Event Interface (CEI) for secondary patient alarm notification. In keeping with Spacelabs' commitment to open standards and connectivity, the CEI is designed to connect with Emergin's Patient Monitoring Gateway, enabling nurses to receive alarms directly, even if they are away from the bedside or central stations. The new messaging interface solution, part of Spacelabs' Intesys® Clinical Suite (ICS), will be available initially in the US and Canada.

The Spacelabs messaging solution relays patient alarm messages from Spacelabs patient monitors, including those from devices connected via Flexport technology, directly to the Emergin Gateway where messages are routed to caregiver pagers, wireless phones, badges or LED signs. The new secondary messaging system will be showcased at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference, February 12-16 in San Diego.

Designed to give hospitals a high degree of functionality and the broadest possible options in communications systems, the CEI integrates seamlessly with the Emergin Patient Monitoring Gateway, improving staff efficiency and enhancing patient care. The new ICS product is fully compatible with Spacelabs UltraviewSL(TM), Ultraview® and PCMS® monitors. It is especially well-suited for telemetry departments and care areas with private rooms because it can send text messages, waveforms or both to caregivers whenever and wherever they need the information.

"By partnering with Emergin, Spacelabs Medical can now offer customers more choices and connect patient monitors via the Clinical Event Interface with virtually any commercial device - offering a broader opportunity for expanded communications," said Michael A. McNeal, President & CEO of Emergin.

"The CEI solution enables Spacelabs to further support our customers' needs for connectivity, access to time-critical information when and where it's needed and maximum flexibility in their choice of systems," said Jonathan Lauer, Vice President of Global Strategic Marketing for Spacelabs. "All this adds up to what clinicians value most - more time for patient care."
