Healthcare Industry News: hemodialysis
News Release - February 22, 2006
Smiths Medical To Distribute Split Stream(R) Dialysis CathetersST. PAUL, Minn.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Feb. 22, 2006--Smiths Medical MD, Inc. announced today that it has broadened its line of hemodialysis catheters to now include Split Stream® hemodialysis Catheters from medCOMP®.
Split Stream® catheters contain a split tip design for high flow rates with low venous pressures, less than 1% recirculation, and low rates of catheter occlusions. The catheters allow for two unique insertion techniques, standard or retrograde (for optimal catheter tip placement), depending on physician preferences.
For the dialysis nurse, the removable hub can be removed and discarded once the catheter cuff is secure. This allows for easy cleaning of the catheter insertion site, and greater patient comfort. The Easy Grip(TM) luers allow the clinician to easily change the caps. Repair kits are also available.
The Split Stream® catheters complement Smiths Medical's current line of TruFlow® hemodialysis catheters, which contain a staggered tip design, include both long- and short-term catheters, and unique polyurethane catheters and tray components. Smiths Medical now has a complete line of hemodialysis catheters for all clinician needs and preferences.
