Siemens Puts Digital Mammography on the GoFDA Approves MAMMOMAT Novation(DR) System for Mobile Use
MALVERN, Pa.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--April 25, 2006--Siemens Medical Solutions announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a PMA supplement to allow marketing of the MAMMOMAT® Novation(DR) for mobile use. Medical facilities can now "hit the road" with this full field digital mammography system, as it can be hooked up to a mobile coach, offering clinicians improved functionality and flexibility in the mobile environment.
"Digital mammography is quickly becoming the new gold standard for breast cancer screening and detection," said Diane Livengood, director, Women's Health, Siemens Medical Solutions. "Now our customers can use the MAMMOMAT Novation(DR) system in a mobile environment to reach more patients with one of the best mammography solutions available. This is especially important in improving access for women who may have difficulty traveling to an imaging facility that offers digital mammography."
Proven in addressing the demands of the modern mammography practice, Siemens' MAMMOMAT Novation(DR) provides digital screening, diagnosis and stereotactic biopsy capabilities - all in one system. It enables clinicians to better pinpoint disease and plan treatment. With the mobile configuration, medical facilities can bring digital mammography directly to their patients and offer comprehensive women's health services on the road.
Featuring a flat panel detector-based on amorphous Selenium (aSe) technology, MAMMOMAT Novation(DR)enables a direct conversion of X-ray to digital information. The aSe detector technology has the potential to provide higher spatial resolution and greater clinical detail, which aid clinicians in their diagnosis. In addition to optimal image quality, the combination of proprietary detector technology and the unique X-ray tube result in dose exposure reduction.
At 24 by 29 centimeters, the size of MAMMOMAT Novation(DR) image detector also allows imaging of a wide range of patient breast sizes, and its paddle is designed to provide easier and more comfortable patient positioning. In addition, the system's acquisition and reporting stations deliver optimized workflow. It can work with Siemens MammoReport(Plus), a multi-modality workstation for mammography with the ability to accept CAD markers from approved vendors. MammoReport(Plus) provides fast, high-volume mammogram reading, permitting users to switch between eight-view mammographic studies in less than one second - improving workflow in the process.
