Tyco Healthcare / Mallinckrodt and IRadimed Announce North American Agreement

Award-Winning MRidium(TM) MRI Infusion System to Be Sold by Mallinckrodt

SEATTLE, May 11 (HSMN NewsFeed) -- ISMRM ANNUAL MEETING -- Allowing continuous flow of intravenous drugs during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures has always been very challenging. The strong magnetic field always present with MRI scanners prohibited the use of traditional infusion pumps in the scan room. The need to continue administration of life-sustaining drugs necessitated makeshift methods to ensure patients receive necessary fluids throughout the MR procedure. The solution to that problem arrived last year in the form of the MRidium(TM) MRI IV pump, manufactured by IRadimed Corporation of Winter Park, FL. This exciting new product will soon be sold in the U.S., Canada and Mexico exclusively through Mallinckrodt Inc. of St. Louis, MO, a division of Tyco Healthcare.

The revolutionary MRidium(TM) is the only truly non-magnetic infusion pump on the market, utilizing a unique ultra-sonic ceramic motor. The innovative MRidium MR pump received the prestigious Frost and Sullivan Product Innovation Award for 2005. Recently UL-listed and CE-marked, the pump has also received certification for use with 1.0 to 3.0 Tesla MRI systems from both Phillips Medical Systems and Siemens Medical Systems. With its exclusive array of IV sets and wireless remote control, the MRidium system is the ideal solution for safe delivery of IV fluids in the MR environment. Combining the many advantages of the MRidium(TM) system with the sales and marketing strength of Mallinckrodt offers the MR community a unique proposition. Mallinckrodt's dedicated sales specialists are particularly knowledgeable about MRI, given their experience selling OptiMARK® (gadoversetamide injection) and OptiStar® LE Contrast Delivery System. Mallinckrodt Imaging is an industry leader, and provides vital imaging products that help detect and diagnose disease at the earliest possible moment.

Patient and clinician safety, always the foremost concern, is significantly improved using the MRidium(TM) infusion system, eliminating the dangers of a ferrous IV pump in the MR suite. Other special features of the pump are an integrated dose calculator; a large LCD display for ease of use; and an extra long-life LiPolymer battery, which can be recharged in the magnet room. The non-magnetic components permit safe operation up to 10,000 Gauss.
