Wright Medical Group, Inc. Announces Launch of PROFEMUR(R) RENAISSANCE(TM) Total Hip System
New Stem With Enhanced Fixation Expands Wright's Innovative Modular Neck OfferingARLINGTON, Tenn.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--July 19, 2006--Wright Medical Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: WMGI ), a global orthopaedic medical device company, is pleased to announced the launch of its PROFEMUR® RENAISSANCE(TM) Total Hip System. The system features a stem designed to provide enhanced proximal fixation and immediate rotational stability within the femur. As part of Wright's PROFEMUR® family of implants, the RENAISSANCE(TM) stem also incorporates modular neck technology which is ideally suited for a less invasive surgical approach.
The PROFEMUR® RENAISSANCE(TM) hip stem is designed to achieve enhanced fixation through a combination of features at both the proximal and distal ends of the implant. For patient-matched proximal fixation, the stem offers both standard and reduced flare options. This more precise proximal fit can help maximize load transfer to reduce stress-shielding of the bone. Distally, the stem features splines that protrude beyond the root diameter of the implant for greater immediate rotational stability. Together, this improved dual fixation reduces micromotion of the implant, thereby facilitating osseointegration within the femur.
As part of the PROFEMUR® family of hip implants, the new RENAISSANCE(TM) stem features Wright's innovative modular neck technology. Modular necks provide maximum intraoperative flexibility by allowing fine tuning for offset, version and leg length. For minimally invasive surgical approaches, modularity also simplifies implant insertion and reduces the risk of soft-tissue damage.
