Wright Medical Group, Inc. Introduces CHARLOTTE(TM) CLAW(TM) Plate for Foot and Ankle SurgeryInnovative Approach to Compression Plating Sets New Standard for Foot and Ankle Fixation
ARLINGTON, Tenn.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Aug. 21, 2006--Wright Medical Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: WMGI ), a global orthopaedic medical device company, today announced the launch of its CLAW(TM) Plate for foot and ankle surgery. The CLAW(TM) Plate is the latest innovation in Wright's CHARLOTTE(TM) product line, which includes screws, plates and staples for use in reconstructive foot and ankle procedures.
The CLAW(TM) Plate is the first product in the orthopaedic market to combine surgeon-controlled dynamic compression with fixed-angle locking screws. The product is designed to offer superior fixation and anatomic flexibility compared to traditional compression staples.
The CLAW(TM) Plate was designed in collaboration with surgeons at The Cleveland Clinic, Duke University, and OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC. Robert Anderson, M.D., a design surgeon at OrthoCarolina, commented, "The CLAW(TM) Plate is a tremendous addition to the CHARLOTTE(TM) Foot and Ankle Fixation System. Our early clinical experiences have shown that the CLAW(TM) plate is tremendously versatile and achieves excellent mechanical fixation. It has already redefined the way that we obtain fixation in many common surgical applications."
Approximately 100,000 foot and ankle osteotomies and fusions are performed in the U.S. annually. It is estimated that the CLAW(TM) Plate may be suitable for fixation in 25-40% of these procedures.
