Getting to the Heart of the Matter: Siemens Announces Antares 4.0 with Shared Capabilities

Advanced, Ergonomic Ultrasound System Meets Demands of Changing Healthcare Environment

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Today, Siemens Medical Solutions (www.usa.siemens.com/medical) announced the latest in high-end ultrasound imaging - the 4.0 release for its ACUSON Antares(TM) ultrasound system, premium edition. This premium performance solution will feature shared service cardiology applications in addition to the complete range of general imaging applications and advanced clinical applications such as 3D/4D and contrast agent imaging. With its enhanced imaging performance, the system enables physicians to better view disease, even with the most technically difficult-to-image patients.

Developed in close collaboration with Siemens' customers, such as Radiology Associates in Ridgewood, New Jersey, the Antares system, premium edition platform builds upon advanced workflow and diagnostic capabilities, with several innovative features to adapt to today's changing healthcare environments.

"With the Antares platform, our customers can rely on an ultrasound solution with the power to stand up to the demands of today's busy and diverse healthcare facilities," said Klaus Hambuechen, president, Ultrasound Division, Siemens Medical Solutions. "The Antares 4.0 release integrates advanced ultrasound performance into one compact, portable system. Its sleek, lightweight design makes it ideally suited for both ambulatory care settings as well as in-patient use because it can be brought right to the patient's bedside."

Customers were the driving force behind the design of the new platform. With their support and advice, Siemens crafted its unique product specifications. Radiology Associates served as a beta site for the new system.

"We perform roughly 30 ultrasound exams each day, so it's crucial we have a system that is accommodating to our technologists," said Jeanne Gray, technologist, Radiology Associates. "With the Antares 4.0, we can complete exams effectively and with the maximum amount of comfort for our technologists and patients. The flat screen monitor allows us to review images onscreen while scanning, making it easier when editing a study. In addition, with its 3D imaging capabilities, we're able to view breast masses and manipulate the image, helping us to better plan for the appropriate type of breast biopsy."

The Antares system, premium edition, 4.0 release is equipped with a high-resolution 19-inch flat panel display mounted on an articulating arm for optimal viewing position. Other ergonomic design features include the natural and extended reach zone concept that places controls and peripheral devices so they are easily accessible. This helps alleviate much of the operator stress often experienced by clinicians, allowing for more comfortable patient exams and improved examination and departmental workflow.

In addition, customers will have access to all the advanced features of ACUSON Antares, premium edition. These include:
  • A full suite of Hanafy Lens and Multi-D(TM) array transducers, offering superior 2D and color Doppler image quality.

  • Clarify(TM) vascular enhancement technology that allows physicians to optimize vascular images. TEQ(TM) ultrasound technology that automatically optimizes both 2D and spectral Doppler images with a touch of a single button, greatly improving ease of scanning, workflow, and diagnostic confidence by providing consistent image quality.

  • fourSight(TM) 4D ultrasound imaging technology for easy 4D volume acquisition and workflow support, enabling reduced exam acquisition and post processing time.

  • SieScape(TM) panoramic imaging as well as SieClear(TM) multi-view spatial compounding for enhanced viewing of gross anatomic orientation and detection of subtle structures.

  • Cadence(TM) contrast pulse sequencing (CPS) technology option to effectively separate the display of contrast agent signals from tissue signals. This results in additional diagnostic information, while greatly improving sensitivity and specificity in lesion detection and characterization for both low and high mechanical index contrast agent imaging.

  • An enhanced screen layout, featuring a large user interface and thumbnails that allow for better screen overview and operation when scanning or reviewing.
Current SONOLINE and ACUSON Antares customers can easily upgrade to the expanded capabilities of the 4.0 premium edition release.
