Endius Introduces NexPosure(TM)-- A Revolutionary New Product That Provides Surgeons With Posterior MIS Cervical Access

Company also launches the Minit(TM) Posterior Cervical and Upper Thoracic Fixation System for use with NexPosure

PLAINVILLE, Mass., Sept. 27 (HSMN NewsFeed) -- Endius Incorporated announced today the availability of NexPosure(TM), an exciting, innovative new product that provides surgeons with minimally-invasive access to the posterior cervical spine. The company also announced the launch of Minit(TM), the first posterior cervical and upper thoracic Fixation System designed for both open and minimally invasive surgery.

"We think NexPosure will revolutionize cervical spine surgery," said Michael McCarthy, president and CEO of Endius. "NexPosure enables an unprecedented amount of minimally-invasive exposure to the posterior cervical spine, enabling surgeons to perform 4-level procedures or more through a MIS approach which, up until now, was just simply not possible."

Based on the company's FlexPosure® access platform developed for minimally-invasive lumbar surgery, NexPosure provides for minimally invasive access to the posterior cervical region of the spine, sparing crucial muscles and attachments in this region of the spine. Just as preserving precious muscles in the lumbar region has demonstrated value to the patient in terms of reduced tissue trauma, post-operative pain and a more rapid return to normal activities of daily living, the same result is expected in the cervical region.

The features of NexPosure include:
-- Oval pivoting tube in all planes, for effective binocular
visualization and access to the posterior spine
-- Radiolucent, enables spinal landmarks to be viewed, while light
shading of device under fluoroscopy enables easy identification of
exposed area
-- Biased skirt, provides unique targeted approach to cervical spine and
upper thoracic anatomy
-- Variable lengths to accommodate the variability of patients
-- Locking and pliable skirt enables effective MIS exposure with less
intramuscular pressures generated than that of traditional rigid
retractors

"My experience with NexPosure has been extremely positive," said Ashwini Sharan, M.D. of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. "NexPosure is unique in that it allows for a more intuitive surgical approach to the posterior cervical spine than the traditional open incision. Its design enables me -- as a surgeon -- to access, expose and surgically treat the cervical spine better than I could using a larger, more invasive open incision. Interestingly, this superior approach to the cervical spine also results in reduced damage to tissue and muscle during surgery which, in turn, helps reduce pain and provide a patient with a quicker and more robust recovery."

McCarthy said Minit(TM) provides a top loading, simple and secure solution for providing rigid posterior fixation of the posterior cervical and upper thoracic spine.

Minit includes instruments and spinal implants for posterior spinal fixation in the C3-C7 vertebral levels in the cervical spine and in the upper levels of the thoracic spine, typically from T1-T3.

The screws are based on the design of the TiTLE®2 screws, well established as an exceptional Fixation System in the lumbar region of the spine. The screws feature 64 degrees of head angulation, a friction head for ease of rod delivery, construct assembly and final tightening. "The success of TiTLE 2 has carried over to Minit and these features have already demonstrated value for the spine surgeon for work in the posterior cervical and upper thoracic spine," McCarthy said.

Founded in 1997, Endius is a pioneer in the development of breakthrough minimally-invasive spine surgery products and implants to treat serious spine disease. The company's Atavi System is the only fully integrated system that enables surgeons to perform spine surgery minimally invasively while preserving the fundamentals of traditional open surgical technique. More than 200 surgeons have now been trained to use the Atavi system and more than 2,000 surgical procedures have been successfully completed.
