H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center Expands Use of Viking Systems, Inc. 3Di Digital Vision System into Multiple Operating Rooms
SAN DIEGO--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Viking Systems, Inc. (OTCBB: VKSY ), a designer, manufacturer and marketer of 3-D vision systems for use in minimally invasive surgical (MIS) procedures, has announced that H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in Tampa, FL will expand the use of it's 3Di Digital Vision System and has purchased additional vision systems for use in multiple operating rooms.Senior Vice President for Commercial Operations at Viking Systems, Lonna J. Williams states, "Surgeons performing complex MIS cases readily realize the clinical value of 3-D vision. It is reasonable to believe that with technology available that allows laparoscopic surgeons the opportunity to restore their natural vision, facilitates depth cues and maximizes dexterity, all at a reasonable cost, the use of this technology will be widely adopted through out hospital operating rooms."
Dr. Julio Pow-Sang, a highly regarded Urologic surgeon and Division Chief, Genitourinary Oncology at the Center will expand the use of the Viking 3Di technology to additional operating rooms. He also intends to integrate real time ultrasound and diagnostic cancer images into the head mounted display making this critical information available, in a picture-in-picture format, intra-operatively upon voice-activated demand.
Dr. Pow-Sang and Moffitt Cancer Center have been using Viking's 3Di Digital Vision System for Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy for nearly a year. His clinical research suggests 3-D vision along with articulating laparoscopic hand held instruments, improves clinical outcomes, including surgical margins, and reduces operating room time. Dr. Pow-Sang will report additional details in the near future.
