Healthcare Industry News: Pleur-evac
News Release - October 5, 2006
Teleflex Medical's Dekna-lok(TM) Provides 'Clip-and-Go' Speed and Convenience During Time-Sensitive SurgeryRESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Teleflex Medical officially launched Dekna-lok, an innovative device that facilitates soft tissue approximation during open and laparoscopic surgery, during the 2006 World Congress of Endourology.
The World Congress was held at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio, on August 16-20. Dekna-lok was featured during a full-day event workshop attended by more than 40 surgeons.
Developed as a prepackaged device, Dekna-lok combines pre-measured Deknatel® suture, two Weck® Hem-o-lok® large non-absorbable polymer components, and a Teleflex Medical needle. The device is used to facilitate tissue approximation during open and laparoscopic surgery. During the suturing procedure, the needle and suture are pulled through the patient's tissue until the polymer components attached near the proximal end of the knotted suture are flush with the tissue. The components act as a buttress to prevent the knot from pulling through the tissue.
Dekna-lok's preassembled, sterile, "clip-and-go" convenience helps shave costly minutes in the operating room by eliminating the need for the surgeon to build the devices prior to surgery. Should additional unplanned devices be needed, urgent assembly and the related procedural delay are eliminated with the product's convenient, sterile, single unit packaging.
Deknatel is a well-known pioneer in the cardiovascular specialty suture arena and the Weck Hem-o-lok polymer clip is used worldwide for fast, secure vessel ligation. Dekna-lok combines these in a preassembled format that replaces suture tying with clip-and-go convenience.
According to Jens Boy, vice president and general manager of Teleflex Medical's Surgical Products Division, Dekna-lok is "a prime example of the innovative surgical solutions Teleflex Medical brings to the market when it works directly with healthcare professionals."
