NeoGuide Systems Taps Medical Device Industry Veteran as New President and Chief Executive Officer

LOS GATOS, Calif.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--NeoGuide Systems Inc., a developer of technology to prevent and treat colorectal cancer, has named Austin Noll its new president and chief executive officer. A seasoned health-care executive with nearly two decades of experience in the medical device industry, Noll takes the helm of NeoGuide as it prepares for commercialization of its flagship product, the NeoGuide Endoscopy System. Company founder and the inventor of the technology Amir Belson, M.D., will remain full-time with NeoGuide as a board member and the chief technology officer. In this role, he will lead the development of new technology applications to support future company growth.

"Austin has the solid business growth track record and depth of leadership experience that made him our ideal choice for chief executive officer of NeoGuide," said Belson. "We are confident that he will make a significant positive impact on our commercialization as well as the future growth of the company."

Prior to joining NeoGuide, Noll held numerous leadership positions at Medtronic over a 13-year period. Most recently he was senior vice president of marketing and business development for Medtronic Neurologic Technologies. He also has served as the vice president and general manager of the Powered Surgical Solutions and Neurosurgery businesses.

Before Medtronic, Noll held sales positions at C.R. Bard and Baxter Healthcare. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Miami University and a master's of business administration from the University of Michigan.

"I believe NeoGuide's technology will make a significant contribution to the practice of gastroenterology, and even more importantly, the rate of successful colorectal screening," said Noll. "There are approximately 42 million average risk people 50 or older in the United States who are not getting screened. With the NeoGuide Endoscopy System, we look forward to the day when we can greatly increase the current screening rate and reduce the impact of colon cancer both in the U.S. and worldwide."

Noll's appointment to president and CEO follows NeoGuide's hiring of Ian Felix as Vice President of Operations, announced October 5, and the company's receipt of $25 million in Series C funding, announced September 26.

NeoGuide is developing the NeoGuide Endoscopy System, a computer-assisted colonoscopy system designed to enhance physician control of the colonoscope and to eliminate looping, the principle limitation of the conventional colonoscopy procedure. The company received FDA clearance of the NeoGuide Endoscopy System earlier this year and expects to begin commercialization in 2007.
