Toshiba and McKesson Launch Horizon Medical Imaging Store 100 at RSNA

Cost-Effective Mini-PACS Solution Now Available

CHICAGO--(HSMN NewsFeed)--As part of an ongoing partnership to deliver turnkey picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) solutions to the medical community, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. and McKesson Corporation today introduced the Horizon Medical Imaging(TM) Store 100, a cost-effective mini-PACS solution, at the Radiological Society of North America's (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago, Nov. 26-Dec. 1, 2006. This new mini-PACS solution, exclusively available for Toshiba products, will enable smaller hospitals and imaging centers that don't need an enterprise PACS system to store data in a manageable and cost-effective way.

Today, many facilities that do not need or cannot afford a full enterprise PACS system store data on DVDs and use organization systems that can be confusing and potentially waste time when it comes to locating a particular case. Horizon Medical Imaging Store 100 is a cost-effective solution for these facilities. It offers the ability to store cases online safely and efficiently, without requiring an enterprise PACS system. However, should additional storage or a PACS system be necessary as the clinical practice expands, Horizon Medical Imaging Store 100 becomes the building block for full enterprise PACS capability of McKesson's industry-leading Horizon Medical Imaging solution.

McKesson's Horizon Medical Imaging received the top ranking in the KLAS Community Hospital PACS 2006 Report(1) issued this month by KLAS Enterprises, LLC. This is the second straight year that McKesson has received the No. 1 ranking for the community market, which comprises hospitals of less than 200 beds.

"Toshiba is committed to providing the best possible solutions for the medical community," said Doug Ryan, senior director of the CT Business Unit at Toshiba. "Our partnership with McKesson makes it possible for us to offer tailored storage solutions for a variety of customers. Now, facilities that do not require a full PACS system, but need an efficient way to store data, have a customized solution."

"The strength of the McKesson and Toshiba partnership lies in the innovations that we bring to the PACS market to address the many needs of the community hospital, both for today and the future," said Sunny Sanyal, group president, Clinical Solutions, McKesson Provider Technologies. "We believe that our continued commitment to support, service and provide a positive user experience is reflected in McKesson's strong momentum in the market."

Horizon Medical Imaging Store 100 is compatible with Toshiba's CT and Ultrasound products, including the Aquilion(TM) CT product line and the Aplio XG(TM), Nemio XG(TM), and Xario(TM) Ultrasound products.

"This archive allows for a combination of modalities to be connected at one time," said Gordon Parhar, director of Toshiba's Ultrasound Business Unit. "It also will allow for DICOM data review at the workstation, which will increase efficiency for our customers."

Earlier this year, Toshiba and McKesson signed a distribution agreement to offer McKesson's Horizon Medical Imaging industry-leading PACS solution with Toshiba's innovative diagnostic imaging devices. This new product continues the companies' commitment to offer imaging centers and hospitals under 200 beds an archiving system that is reliable, affordable, easy to implement and easy to support.
