Candelis Responds to Growing Image Management Challenges With Next-Generation ImageGrid(TM) 1500 PACS Appliance

PACS Appliance Offers Capacity for Volumetric Image Management and Optional Information Lifecycle Management Package

CHICAGO, IL--(Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network)--Nov 27, 2006 -- RSNA Booth Number: South Building - Hall A 2996 -- Candelis, Inc., an Irvine, Calif.-based medical informatics company, today introduced its next-generation ImageGrid(TM) 1500 Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) appliance to meet the growing demand among healthcare professionals for cost-effective, feature-rich and reliable image and data management. Designed to accommodate data-intensive imaging modalities such as 64-slice computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, the ImageGrid 1500 offers up to 11.25 terabytes (TB) of raw capacity in an easy-to-implement 3U form factor.

The ImageGrid 1500 is available separately or bundled with ImageGrid ILM software integrated with Sony Advance Intelligence Tape(TM) (AIT) library for comprehensive Information Lifecycle Management (ILM). With ImageGrid ILM software, users can migrate dated images and data to tape for long-term archiving and recover disk storage capacity using the software's storage retention feature.

The ImageGrid is a line of Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) industry-standard PACS appliances optimized for digital-image access and routing. It provides simplified image management and highly reliable storage and archive capabilities in a fully integrated storage server platform.

The ImageGrid 1500 will be displayed and demonstrated to healthcare professionals for the first time at the 92nd Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago.

"Candelis' new ImageGrid 1500 PACS appliance offers features, versatility and performance at a price point that is unmatched in the medical imaging industry," said Hossein Pourmand, vice president of business development, Candelis, Inc. "The ImageGrid 1500 is the ideal PACS for diagnostic imaging centers, multi-location practices -- especially those with multiple physicians and modalities -- and hospitals departments seeking a 'dedicated' PACS compatible with an enterprise PACS. The ImageGrid 1500 not only offers the capacity to manage the most data-intensive imaging studies, but also advanced features that optimize communication and management of medical images and data, and reduces the cost of long-term archiving and HIPAA compliance."

ImageGrid 1500 PACS

Compatible with any DICOM imaging modality and DICOM viewing workstation, including leading volumetric imaging workstations, the ImageGrid 1500 offers a diverse set of PACS features designed to meet the clinical needs of today's most demanding digital imaging environments. ImageGrid 1500 product highlights include: -- RAID 6 image and data archiving with up to 11.25 TB of raw capacity (expandable to more than 100 TB)

-- Embedded database with capacity to handle more than 100 million images

-- Manual and automated routing using DICOM, File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Remote Copy Protocol (RCP) or Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)

-- Ability to attach encapsulated user documents (i.e. PDF report) in DICOM format to imaging study

-- Automatic rule-based and HIPAA-compliant storage retention

-- Integration with Sony AIT tape library as an option for HIPAA compliance back-up

-- Optional Modality Worklist (MWL), Modality Performed Procedure Step (MPPS) and Departmental Scheduling System (DSS) support

-- Optional embedded HL7 industry standard support for integration with Radiology Information System (RIS)/Hospital Information Systems (HIS)

-- Web-based system administration and operation interface

For diagnostic imaging facilities with multiple modalities, the ImageGrid 1500 receives DICOM images and data from any number of modalities for archiving and routing to/from workstations on a local area network or a virtual private network. An optional integrated Web-based DICOM viewer can also provide referring physicians with non-diagnostic viewing and access to the ImageGrid. To help meet HIPAA requirements for patient files and imaging studies, a second ImageGrid can be deployed at a secure offsite location and a copy of all studies can be routed based on rules, policies and guidelines established using a Web-based user interface.

As a dedicated PACS, the ImageGrid 1500 is designed specifically to meet the needs of digital imaging environments operating data-intensive modalities such as 64-slice CT and MRI. By "isolating" or "decoupling" the modalities from the legacy PACS and routing images and data to the ImageGrid 1500, imaging facilities can extend the life of their legacy PACS, and ensure continued expansion compatibility with a more cost-efficient and always-online image management solution.
