ZONARE Installs World's First Convertible Ultrasound(TM) System in Emory Healthcare Vascular Lab

Superb Image Quality and Flexibility Provides Solution to Vascular Surgical Imaging Needs

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 25 (HSMN NewsFeed) -- ZONARE Medical Systems, a developer of next generation ultrasound technology, today announced it has recently installed the company's z.one ultrasound system at Emory Healthcare's Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, a recognized leader in the treatment of vascular disease. Based on revolutionary Zone Sonography(TM) technology, the z.one system is the world's first Convertible Ultrasound(TM) platform. Versatility, flexibility, excellent image quality and ease of use were all important factors in the selection of the z.one system by Emory.

"The z.one system finally gave us the right solution for implementing point of care ultrasound with outstanding image quality," said Dan Watkins, PA-C, MBA, senior operations manager for Emory Vascular Surgery and General/GI Surgery. "We highly value the ability of the system to convert from a full-featured, cart-based unit to a premium compact system at the touch of a button. This gives us additional flexibility in providing point of care diagnostic imaging regardless of the patient's location."

Zone Sonography technology has allowed ZONARE Medical Systems to bring the first Convertible Ultrasound platform to the industry with superb image quality at a substantial price to value ratio. Clinicians are able to instantly convert the z.one platform from a full-featured, cart-based system into a premium compact, ultrasound system with all the performance of substantially larger and more expensive ultrasound units, yet, with greater portability and clinical flexibility than conventional compact systems.

Combining a fundamentally new advance in ultrasound, Zone Sonography technology, coupled with the z.one platform's radically new physical design, provides the maximum flexibility offering significant clinical and workflow solutions for a wide variety of customer challenges. The z.one platform's Zone Sonography software-based architecture ensures that its performance will increase as improvements in processing power become available. This allows for fast, convenient upgrades in clinical capabilities, keeping clinicians at the forefront of diagnostic capabilities as well as protecting their investment. Most upgrades can be downloaded via the Internet, another industry first.

"Our vascular surgeons have been very impressed by the image quality and ability to optimize the image with the touch of a button," said Annette Gunnoud, RVT, manager of Emory's vascular lab. "For example, I recently was asked by a surgeon to do a last minute exam at the end of the day to rule out DVT. I just removed the z.one scan engine out of the cart and completed the exam in about five minutes."

The Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy of Emory University has been a recognized leader in the treatment of vascular disease for over 75 years. The emphasis of the clinical unit is to offer patients with vascular disease comprehensive care that is based upon the individual needs of the patient. In many cases a focus on preventative measures may be in the best interest of the patient, while in other circumstances drug therapy, angioplasty, stent-grafts, or direct surgery may provide the best option for both an optimal and durable outcome.

"We are pleased to be able to bring Zone Sonography technology to such a highly respected healthcare provider as Emory," said Donald Southard, president and CEO for ZONARE. "Our mutual goals of excellence in patient care will support our ongoing partnership. We are grateful to be a part of the Emory team."
