Wright Medical Group, Inc. Introduces EVOLVE(R) PROLINE System for Radial Head Replacement
Market-Leading Radial Head Implant Expands Patient Indications and Improves Anatomic FitARLINGTON, Tenn.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Wright Medical Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: WMGI ), a global orthopaedic medical device company, today announced the launch of its EVOLVE® PROLINE Radial Head System for radial head replacement. The EVOLVE® PROLINE System is the latest advance of Wright's market-leading EVOLVE® Radial Head Prosthesis, which is used to address instability in complex elbow fractures.
The EVOLVE® PROLINE Radial Head System builds upon the proven clinical success of the EVOLVE® Radial Head Prosthesis with new in-situ assembly capability. This advance allows the implant to be inserted without surgical dissection of intact elbow ligaments, reducing the invasiveness of the procedure. This advance and additional sizes expand the addressable market for radial head replacement. New implant sizes add to one of the industry's most comprehensive size ranges, and enable the surgeon to address both the radiocapitellar joint (RCJ) and the proximal radioulnar joint (PRUJ) independently -- an industry first. Conventional designs attempt to address the RCJ, but do not permit anatomic flexibility in addressing the PRUJ.
The EVOLVE® PROLINE Radial Head System was designed in collaboration with The Hand and Upper Limb Centre at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. Graham J.W. King, M.D., principal design surgeon, commented, "Our recently published study in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery demonstrated the long-term success of the EVOLVE® prosthesis in dealing with complex fractures of the elbow. The EVOLVE® PROLINE System adds clinical flexibility and enables a less-invasive surgical approach to elbows with intact ligaments. This will enable the system to contribute positively to a greater variety of elbow injuries."
Over 16,000 EVOLVE® Radial Head prostheses have been implanted since the product's inception. Wright will highlight the expanded EVOLVE® PROLINE Radial Head System at its corporate booth (#800) during the upcoming annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in San Diego.
