New Philips IT Solutions for Hospital and Cardiac Care Suites Designed to Enhance Clinicians' Ability to Diagnose and Treat Patients

Accurate, accessible information and image digitalization are seen as key components to maximizing the efficiency and quality of care that physicians, nurses and administrators provide throughout the continuum of hospital care.

Designed to increase the efficiency and accuracy of collecting, analyzing and presenting patient data, Philips IT and monitoring solutions can help medical professionals better pinpoint patients' needs and focus on providing the best care possible.

Transitioning the U.S. healthcare system to a paperless system where patient records are kept digitally has been identified by healthcare experts as a major opportunity to reduce overall healthcare expenses and reduce costly mistakes. These new and upgraded technologies seek to further that goal by providing seamless access to patient data across hospital departments.

Delivering clarity and knowledge to clinicians in the first ten feet of care

Hospitals rely on data from disparate systems, from patient demographics to discharge notes and lab results to vital signs. Philips addresses these challenges through its new IntelliVue Clinical Information Portfolio (ICIP) Critical Care, a clinical decision support tool used by clinicians to support patient care. A platform built to support future applications beyond critical care, ICIP is the evolution of CareVue Chart. It centralizes patient data from the bedside and core hospital information systems so clinicians have access, anywhere, to the information they need to make crucial care decisions. Vital signs, bedside device data, labs, pathology reports, medication orders and planned interventions, among other data, are included in the patient flowsheet, helping to eliminate transcription errors and time lost recording and re-recording data by hand. Clinical advisories--algorithms that combine critical clinical information from all sources of information--are intended to enable clinicians to increase patient safety, reduce medical errors and increase compliance with evidence-based care guidelines. ICIP's reporting tools merge flexibility and ease of use with a comprehensive built-in library that allows the entire hospital staff to generate regulatory and compliance reports with a few mouse clicks.

The ICIP front-end user interface has been designed by clinicians and is highly customizable for hospitals' and individual units' unique workflow. Enhancing access to clinical information inside and outside the hospital

At HIMSS 2007, Philips Healthcare Informatics is highlighting systems that streamline complex workflow and enable clinicians to focus on patients throughout the entire care cycle from settings both inside and outside the hospital. Philips iSite PACS 3.5, also shown at RSNA 2006, improves on iSite's promise to provide clinical information any time, any place to optimize patient care.

Philips iSite PACS takes digital picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) capabilities to a new level by extending the power of radiology to all caregivers throughout the hospital. The system employs an enterprise-first approach and enables enterprise-wide access to diagnostic-quality images and relevant information. The industry-leading iSite PACS also provides a patient history timeline, helping to optimize care through insight into complete patient history. To help improve overall hospital workflow, iSite also provides collaborative work lists that are shared by multiple radiologists for better utilization and efficiency gains. Via the iSite Application Programming Interface (API), iSite also interfaces with Philips' SpeechQ solutions and the hospital's choice of clinical applications, enabling customized workflow and better connected care.

Additionally, Philips iSite with Advanced Visualization tools (work-in-progress) makes common 3D techniques, such as multiplanar reformation (MPR), maximum-intensity projection (MIP) and advanced Volume Visualization, available to radiologists on the desktop. Delivering real-time (less than three seconds), full-fidelity imaging, this Philips solution leverages existing hospital infrastructure and allows all users to navigate through large volumetric datasets, without having to download the full dataset first or having a dedicated server infrastructure to provide the reconstructed views to the client.

Robust array of new IT solutions for cardiac care enhance personalized patient care

Philips has introduced new networked transport monitor/defibrillator capabilities for in-hospital acute setting use. The HeartStart MRx monitor/defibrillator now combines two devices into one, for wireless transport, emergency department overflow and cardiac departmental needs. The HeartStart MRx will now stream the patient's waveforms and vitals information in real-time to Philips industry-leading IntelliVue Information Center, leveraging the IntelliVue Clinical Network's wired and 1.4 GHz wireless capabilities.

As the industry's first and only monitor/defibrillator connecting to a hospital's real-time clinical network, the HeartStart MRx can now include remote surveillance and automatic logging of patient data for hospitals requiring a defibrillator for transport. This is more cost effective than two separate devices. And since the HeartStart MRx is integrated into the IntelliVue Clinical Network, it can take advantage of the network's HL-7 messaging capability outbound and ADT (Admit/Discharge/Transfer) information flow inbound, which means that patient physiologic data collected by the HeartStart MRx can move with the patient and that data can flow to the patient chart for review by clinical staff.

Continuing its leadership in cardiac information systems, Philips is showcasing as a work-in-progress the new Xcelera Cardiovascular Information Solution, an integrated software suite that unites information from all cardiology-imaging modalities such as interventional cardiology, cardiovascular ultrasound, cardiac CT, cardiac MR, nuclear cardiology and electrophysiology.

Philips Interventional Patient Care (IPC) is also previewing Xper Information Management, a new personalized cardiovascular workflow solution for the catheterization (cath) lab. The integrated Xper Information Management system includes Physiomonitoring 5, the latest evolution of the Philips Series IV Physiomonitoring & Information system. Plus, it delivers a variety of innovations for reporting, scheduling, inventory and intelligent data management. With user-centric navigation and tools that enhance efficiency on multiple levels, this new solution speeds and simplifies workflow for all cardiovascular professionals.

In addition, Philips IPC will be recognized by respected industry performance monitoring company, KLAS. Philips IPC General Manager Bruce Reese and IPC Director of Marketing Maarten Baars will accept the prestigious "2006 Best in KLAS for Cardiology PACS" and "KLAS Specialty Niche Category Leader for Cardiology Hemodynamics" awards on behalf of Philips. To help keep all of its technologies working securely and properly, Philips has introduced a new automated Product Security feed. Available on the Philips Medical Systems Product Security Web site, the solution uses Really Simple Syndication (RSS) to proactively provide customers with timely updates on security patch information for medical devices and systems. This new feature delivers key security information update notifications via an RSS reader, prompting customers to log into the secure customer-accessible information portal to obtain the latest information on security patches for their Philips Medical products. This product security upgrade reinforces Philips' strong industry position in continually providing solutions that aim to keep systems safe and functioning for the best possible patient care.
