Cook Urology Raises the Bar on Small Baskets1.5 French NCircle(R) Tipless Stone Extractor Provides Increased Flow Rate, Improves Physicians' Field Of Vision During ureteroscopy
SPENCER, Ind.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Cook Urology, a division of Cook Medical, the world's largest private medical device company, is further advancing the treatment of kidney stones with the introduction of the 1.5 French NCircle Tipless Stone Extractor. Utilizing Cook's revolutionary nitinol tipless technology, the 1.5 French NCircle offers physicians unrivalled flow and deflection; enabling the capture of even the most challenging kidney or ureteral stones to render patients stone free.
More than one million kidney stone cases are diagnosed annually, and the number of people in the United States who suffer from kidney stones has been steadily increasing over the past 20 years according to the American Urological Association. Kidney stones most often strike individuals between the ages of 20 and 40. However, recent studies show an increase in the number of cases affecting young children as well, demonstrating that this condition is spreading. Additionally, once the first kidney stone is formed, the likelihood of recurrence is 50 percent, as the majority of available treatment and surgical options are not designed to effectively eliminate recurrences.
The 1.5 French NCircle Tipless Stone Extractor is made from nitnol, a shape-memory alloy that combines nickel and titanium. As a result, the minuscule basket retains its shape following extreme torsion, yet is flexible enough for a physician to guide during stone manipulation without damage to surrounding renal tissue.
"With our breakthrough nitinol technology, The 1.5 French NCircle Tipless Stone Extractor provides physicians with the tool they need to effectively remove stones within the patient's kidney," said Jerry French, senior vice president and global strategic business unit leader for Cook Medical's urology division. "As the number of people suffering from kidney stones continues to increase, Cook is proud to put the needs of physicians and patients first by developing devices that incorporate the latest innovations in medical design, enabling easier and less invasive procedures to render patients stone-free and help them return to a normal quality of life."
