Patient Safety Technologies Appoints Bill Adams President of Company

LOS ANGELES--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Patient Safety Technologies, Inc. (PST) (OTCBB:PSTX ) announced today that Bill Adams, Chairman and CEO of the company's wholly owned SurgiCount Medical subsidiary, has been named President of PST.

"Under Bill Adams' capable direction, the SurgiCount team is moving ahead aggressively to establish the Safety-Sponge(TM) System as the standard of care in the healthcare industry. With PST's sole focus of health care and patient safety medical devices, Mr. Adams' appointment as President of PST not only demonstrates the cohesive nature and structure of PST and SurgiCount, but is a testament to Mr. Adams' dedication, hard work, and success," said Arnold Spangler, Chairman of PST.

Mr. Adams has over twenty-five years of experience working with healthcare providers and distributors in marketing and selling new products, including prepackaged surgical kits. Mr. Adams has been actively involved in the design and development of the Safety-Sponge System for several years and was instrumental in solidifying SurgiCount's national distribution and manufacturing agreements.

"We believe the Safety-Sponge System is significantly improving perioperative nurse practices related to sponge counting, and by extension improving patient safety with an exponential leap forward," said Bill Adams, President of PST. "As more leading clinical institutions adopt the Safety-Sponge System, we expect it to become the standard of care in the industry, replacing the current manual counting method in the operating room with modern technology in the mission critical task of tracking surgical sponges."

Continuing with PST's previously announced restructuring plan to consolidate and streamline the companies, the Company will be relocating its corporate headquarters from Los Angeles to the offices of SurgiCount Medical in Temecula, California.

About SurgiCount Medical, Inc.

SurgiCount Medical, Inc. is a developer and manufacturer of patient safety products and services. The SurgiCount Safety-Sponge(TM) System is a patented turn-key array of modified surgical sponges, line-of-sight scanning SurgiCounters, and printPAD printers integrated together to form a comprehensive counting and documentation system. The Safety-Sponge System works much like a grocery store checkout process: Every surgical sponge and towel is affixed with a unique inseparable two-dimensional data matrix bar code and used with a SurgiCounter to scan and record the sponges during the initial and final counts. Because each sponge is identified with a unique code, a SurgiCounter will not allow the same sponge to be accidentally counted more than one time. When counts have been completed at the end of a procedure, the system will produce a printed report, or can be modified to work with a hospital's paperless system. The Safety-Sponge System is the only FDA 510k approved computer assisted sponge counting system.
