Draeger Medical, Inc. Moves Acute Point of Care From The Hospital To The Home

Carina(TM) Product Line's Innovative Technology Maintains Clinical-Standard Ventilation Control for Patients at Home

TELFORD, Pa.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--As it begins to mark its 100th anniversary in the ventilation industry, Draeger Medical announces the launch of its newest ventilator, the Carinahome, into the U.S. market. Representing a significant step forward in bringing advanced patient care to the home, the Carinahome's design enables caregivers to support patients' ongoing conditions away from clinical settings. Providing both invasive and non-invasive ventilation, the new ventilator enables far greater independence and choice of care settings for many patients with respiratory disorders.

The Carinahome, with its pressure- and volume-oriented modes, has proven itself equally effective in and out of the clinical environment, and presents both professional and non-medical caregivers with their own interfaces. This unique user interface concept means that while a full-access interface is available, showing both pressure and flow curves, a dedicated patient-friendly screen enables patients to adjust pre-determined settings according to their personal needs.

In addition, the Carinahome's AutoSlope and SyncPlus(TM) attributes further support the patient by making triggering and breathing comfortable and gentle. This newest ventilator for the home environment also features low noise levels during operation, an autodimming screen and energy-saving capabilities. Optional accessories, such as a DC input, further increase a patient's freedom and allow Carinahome to be used in the car.

"After a century of respiratory care innovation, we can now offer Draeger expertise in clinical, emergency and transport setting ventilation to the home, with no reduction in the quality of care," said Phil Croxford, president and CEO, Draeger Medical, Inc. "For the first time in the U.S., a Draeger ventilation system will be able to support patients' ongoing conditions outside the hospital and in the comfort of their own homes."

With Carinahome, Draeger Medical further expands its comprehensive ventilation solutions for all areas of acute care to the home environment, and supports the increasing use and importance of Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV).

Carinahome will be available for U.S. sale beginning in Summer 2007.
