Astellas and Theravance Announce Submission of Telavancin MAA for the Treatment of Complicated Skin and Soft Tissue Infections in Europe
TOKYO and SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network)--May 1, 2007 -- Astellas Pharma Inc. (Astellas) and Theravance, Inc. (NasdaqGM:THRX ) announced today that Astellas Pharma Europe B.V. submitted a Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) to the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) for telavancin, a rapidly bactericidal injectable antibiotic with a unique multifunctional mechanism of action, for the treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections (cSSTI) in adults."Following the US NDA filing of telavancin in February 2007, I am pleased to announce that the EU submission of telavancin to the MAA is on schedule," said Masafumi Nogimori, President and Chief Executive Officer of Astellas Pharma Inc. About telavancin Collaboration
In November 2005, Theravance entered into a collaboration arrangement with Astellas Pharma Inc. for the development and commercialization of telavancin worldwide except Japan. In July 2006, Theravance and Astellas expanded the collaboration to include Japan.
