Puffenberger as its president and director of sales and marketing, heading up its newly announced North American operations to be based in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mr. Puffenberger has more than 25 years of experience in the medical device, medical imaging, and pharmaceutical industries including assignments with Johnson & Johnson, Advanced Technology Laboratories and Philips Medical Systems. While with ATL/Philips, Mr. Puffenberger served as the Vice President of Sales for a $120 million business unit. He had responsibility for developing the sales, marketing, and distribution activities of Philips Ultrasound Canada and created strategies for new product introduction.
Barnev Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Yossi Machtey said the selection of Mr. Puffenberger helps position Barnev for the next phase of its development "Jim's knowledge of and achievements in the medical industry will accelerate Barnev's market penetration goals," Mr. Machtey, said. "Jim's vision and leadership will ensure that we leverage the potential of our leading edge Computerized Labor Monitoring system," Mr. Machtey concluded.
Concerning the opening of the North American headquarters, Mr. Machtey indicated that Barnev would conduct its international sales, marketing, investor recruitment and related activity from its office in Cleveland while continuing its research and development in Netanya, Israel.
The Barnev Computerized Labor Monitoring system is an innovative labor progression monitoring device based on proprietary ultrasound technology. It continuously reports on cervical dilation and fetal head station. These measurements are crucial data points used by medical professionals to indicate the progress of and developments in the delivery of infants. They also help clinicians anticipate potential difficulties in the labor process.
The CLM displays important diagnostic data both numerically and graphically, enabling medical teams to act based on real time and continuous information. Costs are reduced, errors mitigated and mother and baby comfort and health are enhanced since the system is much less invasive and more accurate than traditional methods of data collection.
"Barnev's product and service offerings represent a considerable step forward in the management of maternity room processes," Mr. Puffenberger said. "The system is designed to increase efficiency in the hospital and clinical setting, but the ultimate goal is to improve womens' healthcare. The business task now is to organize Barnev's sales and marketing organization to articulate and demonstrate this outstanding technology and the benefits that will accrue to hospitals and maternity clinics, to their staffs, and to their clients," Mr. Puffenberger concluded.
Barnev was founded in 1998 in Netaya, Israel. In February 2007 the company announced that it received United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for use of its Computerized Labor Monitoring system in the active stage of labor.
In addition to announcing Mr. Puffenberger's appointment and the location of the U.S. headquarters in Cleveland, Barnev also announced today that company representatives would attend the 55th Annual American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists meeting in San Diego, California, May 7 - 9, 2007, (Booth # 222).
