News Release - May 18, 2007
American Medical Systems Announces the Introduction of the TherMatrx TMX3000(TM) Office Thermo Therapy System
Therapy Improved to Provide Increased Physician Convenience and Ease of UseMINNEAPOLIS--(HSMN NewsFeed)--American Medical Systems Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMMD ) announced today that it has received FDA approval for its new TherMatrx TMX3000(TM) thermo therapy system and will immediately launch this innovative in-office treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) into the U.S. market.
More than 9 million men in the United States suffer from BPH (more commonly known as enlarged prostate), a natural and non-cancerous condition where the prostate grows and compromises ordinary urethral function. Common symptoms include frequent urination (especially at night), a sudden need to urinate, and a weak urine stream.
The TherMatrx TMX3000 system, which replaces the TherMatrx TMX2000(TM), offers physicians a non-surgical, in-office treatment solution for their patients with BPH. The new TMX3000 system is both customizable and easy to use, with three different protocol settings, a new touch screen monitor, and automatic calibration of temperature sensors. "The multiple protocol options and the automatic sensor calibration on the new TMX3000 enable me to more flexibly manage the patient scheduling in my practice. I view this as a meaningful advance for in-office treatment of my patients with BPH", said Dr. Kenneth Langer of Chesapeake Urology Associates.
Importantly, the efficacy of the TherMatrx TMX3000 thermo therapy system is supported with five-year data proving improved quality of life for patients. Over 60,000 patients have been treated since 2001 with no long-term side effects or unexpected adverse events reported.
Martin J. Emerson, President and Chief Executive Officer of American Medical Systems, added, "The mission of AMS is to restore lives by improving pelvic health, and the new TherMatrx TMX3000 system is an important and innovative step forward in the in-office treatment of BPH. We are pleased to introduce this proven, efficacious and convenient solution to physicians and their patients."
