American Medical Systems Expands Global Clinical Evaluation of MiniArc(TM) Single Incision Sling for Female Stress Urinary Incontinence

Promising Initial Results to be Presented at IUGA Conference

MINNEAPOLIS--(HSMN NewsFeed)--American Medical Systems Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMMD ) announced today that it is expanding the introduction of its innovative new MiniArc(TM) Single Incision Sling System following very promising results from initial implants with a limited number of physicians worldwide.

Dr. Robert D. Moore of Atlanta, Georgia, one of the nation's leading urogynecologists and one of the first surgeons in the U.S. to implant MiniArc, said, "I am enthusiastic about the preliminary results we've seen with MiniArc. The early data demonstrate the safety of MiniArc, and the short-term efficacy rates are promising. I look forward to continuing the clinical evaluation of the MiniArc system in my practice." Dr. Moore will be sharing the initial results of the retrospective evaluation at the 2007 International Urogynecological Association annual meeting in Cancun, Mexico. Dr. Moore will be presenting "MiniArc: The Elegant Next Step in Minimally Invasive Slings - Procedure Overview and Results to Date" in AMS Booth #4/5 on Thursday, June 14, at 11:30 a.m. and again on Friday, June 15, at 1:00 p.m.

AMS is expanding the number of sites at which MiniArc is implanted, reflecting both the successful procedure results seen to date and AMS' continued commitment to provide physicians and their patients with strong clinical data supporting the efficacy of the MiniArc sling system. The MiniArc system involves a simple, single incision procedure designed to reduce operative invasiveness and enhance patient recovery. MiniArc incorporates the proven mesh used in other AMS slings with a simple-to-use delivery system for easy mesh placement without additional skin incisions required with most other sling procedures.

Martin J. Emerson, President and CEO of AMS, said, "We are pleased with the clinical results we've seen thus far on MiniArc, and are excited to take the next step in expanding our physician evaluation sites globally. We are also announcing today the initiation of a two-year, prospective study for MiniArc that further confirms our commitment to physicians seeking innovative and less invasive ways to treat their patients suffering from stress urinary incontinence."

MiniArc results will also be featured at IUGA in a symposium, "The Case for Innovation in Pelvic Floor Surgery", to be held on Thursday, June 14. The session, moderated by Professor Mauro Cervigni, Tor Vergata University, Rome, Italy, will also provide physicians with new benchmark clinical data on Monarc® and Perigee® products from AMS.
