NeuroLogica Supports NFL Summit to Review Policies on Concussion and Head Injury

DANVERS, Mass.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--NeuroLogica Corporation, a neuroscience-based medical imaging company, today announced its support for the National Football League's (NFL) decision to revise its policies on the diagnosis of concussion in players, as well as changing the guidelines on returning to play after diagnosis. The NFL will host a medical summit on June 19, comprised of team physicians and outside medical consultants to address the growing concern of concussions in professional football.

Recent published studies along with the public disclosures of former NFL players who experienced concussive injuries during their playing days have sparked major discussions around the diagnosis and treatment of concussion in the league. Concussion is being linked to depression and other serious brain conditions, including early onset of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

"More timely diagnosis of head injury is now possible due to the advancements and availability of medical and rehabilitative treatments," said Eric C. Bailey, CEO, NeuroLogica Corporation. "We support the NFL taking measures to protect their players from the dangers of concussions, and most notably, multiple concussions. As with all head injuries, 'time is brain,' meaning that the quicker you receive quality medical diagnosis, the better the chances are to a faster path to treatment and improved outcomes."

NeuroLogica recently received accolades from medical staff ringside at the Oscar De La Hoya - Floyd Mayweather fight on May 5, as the company provided its mobile, cordless CT scanner, the CereTom, to scan boxers post-fight. The company scanned eight boxers following fights throughout the weekend, and potentially saved one man's life by identifying a brain bleed that otherwise may have gone undiagnosed had he not been scanned.
