100th INBONE(TM) Total Ankle Implanted

BERKELEY, Calif.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--INBONE Technologies, Inc. announced today the completion of its 100th total ankle implantation by John Gould, M.D., at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. The INBONE(TM) Total Ankle was first used externally eight months ago, by surgeons such as Dr. James DeOrio. Dr. DeOrio, formerly of the Mayo Clinic and now at Duke University, is the system's most prolific user, and was recently named the head of the INBONE Technologies Surgical Advisory Board.

The INBONE(TM) Total Ankle is the subject of much attention due to its unique design and installation system. It is the only TAR with an intramedullary alignment system designed to ensure precise installation with every surgery. It is also the only TAR with a modular stem system offering superior intramedullary anchoring, patient customization and the ability to correct varus/valgus deformities. Other key features include the thickest POLY and superior talar coverage, both of which are known to enhance prosthesis longevity.

Perhaps the most important measure of success is the satisfaction among patients who have received the prosthesis. One INBONE patient recently emailed the inventor, stating, "I had my total ankle surgery a year ago and am delighted with the results! I am pain-free and able to walk over a mile and sail my boat on the open ocean with no difficulty. This surgery has opened (or re-opened) a whole new world for me!"

Dr. Mark Reiley, Co-founder of Kyphon, Inc. and Archus Orthopedics, Inc., inventor of the INBONE(TM) Total Ankle and INBONE(TM) Fusion System, and INBONE Chief Medical Officer, added, "I am enormously pleased with the number of patients we have been able to help - people who had not walked properly in years that are now able to even golf with their friends again. I could not be more proud of the success of this ankle."

The company's complementary product line, the INBONE(TM) Fusion System, provides a unique intramedullary approach to small bone fusion. The system consists of titanium rods and plates which are surgically implanted within the bone to yield unparalleled three dimensional fixation. The porous plasma spray coating conducts growth across the implant and joint, accelerating fusion rates to a consistent 4-8 week timeframe.

The INBONE(TM) Total Ankle Replacement will be exhibited at the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) meeting in Toronto, Canada, with case presentations from the inventor, surgeon chAmpions and Dr. Hani Haider, a leading joint researcher at University of Nebraska. The event is scheduled for Friday, July 13, 2007, from 4-6 p.m. at the Westin St. Francis, Pier 9 conference room.
