Pioneer Surgical Technology Enters License Agreement with AlpineSpine, LLC

Pioneer Surgical to offer novel pedicle screw locking system

MARQUETTE, Mich., July 2 (HSMN NewsFeed) -- Pioneer Surgical Technology today announced it has entered into a license agreement with AlpineSpine, LLC, to acquire the global rights to LowTop, Alpine's novel pedicle screw locking system and cross-link design.

"This new very low profile pedicle screw system is a paradigm shift in spinal fixation," said Matthew N. Songer, M.D., Chairman and CEO of Pioneer Surgical Technology. "This locking system will be able to be used from the occiput to the sacrum seamlessly, provide more functionality and versatility than current systems, and be adaptable to minimally invasive surgery."

Terms of the license agreement were not disclosed. This is the first license agreement between the two companies.

"Our goal for this partnership is to provide patients with solutions to treat back pain, degenerative conditions and spinal injury due to trauma," said Thomas M. Sweeney II, M.D., Ph. D., Chairman of AlpineSpine, LLC.

"This locking system's innovative threadless design enables a lower profile and provides a more reliable locking of the screw to the rod," said Dr. Songer. "We believe this will mean less pain from hardware irritation and more consistent fusion for the patient."
