CMS Selected by ProCure to Provide Comprehensive Treatment Planning Solution for New Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma

ST. LOUIS--(HSMN NewsFeed)--CMS, Inc., the worldwide market leader in radiation treatment planning and workflow management solutions, has been selected by ProCure Treatment Centers, Inc., developers of a network of cancer treatment centers across the United States to deliver FDA approved proton radiotherapy, to supply proton therapy software planning solutions for its first proton therapy center in Oklahoma City, OK. CMS will also supply planning systems for ProCure's state-of-the-art Training and Development Center which will be used to recruit and train employees for its growing network of proton facilities.

ProCure previously reported it had selected IBA to supply the proton therapy equipment for the new center, named the Oklahoma ProCure Treatment Center, which represents the nation's first private practice proton center.

CMS will supply a comprehensive proton and conventional radiotherapy software planning solution that includes eight XiO treatment planning workstations with proton and IMRT planning capabilities. ProCure will also be implementing a CMS Direct planning environment that features centralized on-line data storage and management; remote access to CMS patient data and planning tools; and unified user work spaces which allow planning professionals to conveniently access CMS planning tools as well as other Windows-based clinical applications, Office productivity tools, email and the Internet from a single client terminal. The CMS Direct planning environment will support centralized and distributed planning across ProCure's network of facilities and allow clinicians to remotely discuss, review, modify and approve patient plans.

CMS' XiO is a comprehensive treatment planning system that combines the latest tools and the most robust dose calculation algorithms, allowing users to generate treatment plans quickly and accurately to optimize the delivery of radiation therapy. XiO's integrated planning capabilities support a range of treatment modalities, including 3-D, MLC-based IMRT (both sliding window and step-and-shoot), solid compensator-based IMRT, brachytherapy, and proton therapy. XiO leverages the speed and performance capabilities of the Linux operating system and the processing power of dual Intel processors to deliver superior 3-D image rendering, real-time image manipulation, and rapid calculation times.

XiO supports proton as well as conventional photon and electron planning. Developed over a decade ago in collaboration with leading researchers and clinicians at the Massachusetts General Hospital, XiO's proton planning capabilities are utilized at leading proton treatment sites and research institutions around the world, including MGH and the Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute in the United States. Currently, CMS has more proton facilities using its planning solutions than any other commercial vendor, and its systems are used in conjunction with IBA, Varian/Accel and Mitsubishi delivery systems.

"ProCure selected the CMS' XIO system for our facility in Oklahoma City based on its proven track record, ease of use and their development team's commitment to future enhancements based on customer feedback. We are excited to have the XIO system installed in our Training and Development Center in the fall of 2007 and to start working with the CMS team," said Niek Schreuder, Senior Vice President of Medical Physics and Technology.

"We are delighted with our strategic partnership with ProCure in their first proton treatment facility, and we look forward to working together to make this important new treatment technology more accessible to cancer patients across the country. CMS has a legacy of innovation and excellence in the field of proton planning, and we share ProCure's commitment to patient care," said Andrew C. Cowen, President and CEO of CMS.

CMS is a worldwide leader in the development and support of radiation treatment planning and workflow management solutions. With treatment planning systems installed in more than 1,500 sites worldwide, CMS is a global resource to radiation oncology community. A privately held corporation, CMS employs over 285 professionals in its headquarters located in St. Louis, MO and regional offices in Tampa, Florida; Freiburg, Germany; Tokyo, Japan; Sydney, Australia; and Shanghai, China.
