Defibtech Ships 50,000th Automated External Defibrillator

GUILFORD, Conn.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Defibtech, LLC - a leading designer and manufacturer of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) - announced today that the company has shipped more than 50,000 of its DDU-100 Series AEDs. The company's defibrillators, which revive victims of sudden cardiac arrest, are marketed under the brand names of Lifeline(TM) and ReviveR(TM).

"Our defibrillators have saved numerous lives around the world," said Defibtech CEO Glenn W. Laub, M.D. "When we started the company, AEDs were too expensive and intimidating. Our mission has been to make AEDs more affordable and accessible so that these life-saving devices are available for use everywhere and by everyone. While today's milestone is important from a business perspective, it's even more gratifying to know that we have tens of thousands of units ready to save lives if sudden cardiac arrest occurs." Dr. Laub also is the chairman of cardiac surgery and director of the Heart Hospital at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, N.J.

According to Defibtech President Gintaras Vaisnys, who co-founded the company with Dr. Laub, the company's defibrillators have been extremely well received worldwide and are deployed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe; in China, India, the Middle East and other parts of Asia; and in Australia, South America and Africa. Notably, Defibtech AEDs were selected by the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, and have been the AEDs of choice for statewide deployment programs in Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Utah and elsewhere.

"Because our defibrillators provide high quality, durability, reliability and value, they are often chosen in situations where large numbers of units are needed," said Vaisnys, noting that the New Jersey program placed more than 3,000 AEDs in the state's police and fire vehicles and thousands have been put into service in large-scale corporate deployments. "Not only do we deliver the easiest-to-use professional-quality AED on the market, we do it at the best price."

The Defibtech AED also has been recognized for its outstanding design by numerous independent sources. The Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) selected the Lifeline to be in its "SAFE: Design Takes On Risk" exhibit. The AED also received the Medical Design Excellence Award, presented by Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine, and the Industrial Design Excellence Award, presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America and Business Week magazine. Defibtech AEDs have also earned a number of other awards, including the Best Bang for the Buck Award, from Frost & Sullivan, an AED industry analyst.

AEDs revive victims of sudden cardiac arrest caused by ventricular fibrillation. Health experts estimate that sudden cardiac arrest kills more than 400,000 people in the United States alone. Studies show that if victims are defibrillated within a minute or two after arrest, more than 70 percent survive. If defibrillation is delayed for more than 10 minutes, only 5 percent live, making immediate access to AEDs vital.
