First-in-Man Single Port Reconstructive Urogynecological Operations Performed at Cleveland Clinic

CLEVELAND--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Dr. Jihad H. Kaouk, director of Robotic Urologic Surgery at Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute of Cleveland Clinic recently performed the first-in-man sacral colpopexy entirely through a single belly button incision using The Uni-X™ Single Port Access Laparoscopic System, a single, multi-cannula laparoscopic port and specially designed curved instrumentation. The minimally invasive sacral colpopexy is designed to repair vaginal vault prolapse which may occur after previous hysterectomy. An abdominal sacral colpopexy is traditionally performed via a large lower abdominal incision or several small abdominal incisions.

About Uni-X™ Single Access Laparoscopic System for Minimally Invasive Surgery

The Uni-X™ Single Port Access Laparoscopic System is the first one-port laparoscopic system which consists of a single multi-cannula laparoscopic port and a variety of curved laparoscopic instruments. The system eliminates the need for additional abdominal wall incisions and laparoscopic ports.

The Uni-X™ Single Port Access Laparoscopic System, which was invented by Dr. Gregory Piskun, Morganville, NJ is being offered by Pnavel Systems, Inc. Dr. Piskun and his colleagues performed and reported the first series of one-incision umbilical laparoscopic gallbladder removal in the scientific literature in 1999. For additional information, please contact Dr. Piskun at 718-645-6304 or piskunmd@yahoo.com.
