Xanodyne Announces Two Senior AppointmentsChief Medical Officer, Vice President Sales Positions Filled by Industry Veterans
NEWPORT, Ky.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--XAnodyne Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced the appointment of Gary A. Shangold, M.D., FACOG to the position of chief medical officer with primary responsibility for leading the Company’s clinical drug development programs. Dr. Shangold will report directly to Greg Flexter, president and chief executive officer. In addition, Timothy Arendt was appointed vice president of sales responsible for managing the sales operations and will also report to Flexter. These appointments fill key executive ranks as the Company focuses on advancing its late stage clinical development pipeline in women’s healthcare and pain management.
Shangold is an obstetrician/gynecologist and reproductive endocrinologist with extensive experience at global companies in clinical research, collaboration development and regulatory affairs with a particular focus on women’s health. Shangold has served in senior regulatory and clinical development roles at Johnson & Johnson, the R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute and Serono Laboratories. Shangold’s work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and he has held academic positions in the field of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive endocrinology at Harvard University School of Medicine and Massachusetts General Hospital. Shangold began his career at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where he was a practicing physician and conducted medical research for nearly eight years. Shangold was most recently past president of the American Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians, president and managing member of consulting company Convivotech, LLC, and president, chief executive officer and director of publicly-traded specialty pharmaceutical company NovaDel Pharma. He currently serves as a senior scientific advisor at Agile Therapeutics, Inc. in Princeton, NJ.
Joining XAnodyne from Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Arendt most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of Valeant’s U.S. Pharmaceuticals division. Before serving in this capacity, he was vice president and general manager, U.S. Pharmaceuticals and vice president, global marketing. Prior to his career at Valeant, Arendt served in a variety of sales and marketing positions at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), including regional sales vice president for a variety of disease indications. In addition, he previously served as director of marketing in GSK’s Care Management Division.
