Jill Anderson Named President and CEO of Cianna Medical
ALISO VIEJO, Calif.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Cianna Medical announced today that Jill Anderson has been appointed as president and CEO. She has also been named to the company’s Board of Directors.Anderson will oversee all aspects of Cianna Medical’s operations including the continuing market growth of its innovative technology – the SAVI™ brachytherapy applicator. The company was created in September 2007 when BioLucent, Inc. spun-out its brachytherapy business, concurrent with Hologic’s acquisition of BioLucent.
“Jill’s track record and experience in the medical device and health services industries makes her the natural choice to lead the company,” said Steve Gex, Cianna’s chairman. “Having worked with Jill over several years at BioLucent, I am very pleased to have her as the top executive at Cianna and also on the Board of Directors.”
Anderson was previously president of BioLucent, Inc, which she joined in 2001. During her tenure there, she oversaw the company’s development of its successful MammoPad breast cushion business, and eventual acquisition by Hologic, Inc. for a purchase price of $70 million plus an earn-out based on achieving certain revenue milestones.

The SAVI applicator provides accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI), a shortened course of high-dose radiation therapy that is given to early-stage breast cancer patients following lumpectomy surgery. The radiation is delivered from within the breast and targets the area where the cancer is most likely to recur.
This approach reduces treatment time from six or seven weeks -- which is generally required with conventional whole-breast irradiation -- to just five days. That means women can quickly return to their normal family and work schedules.
The SAVI applicator for APBI allows physicians to precisely target radiation to the area that needs it most, minimizing exposure to healthy tissue. SAVI is the only APBI applicator that can contour the radiation dose to the size and shape of the cavity bed. Without the technical limitations of balloon brachytherapy, SAVI is positioned to grow the market by substantially increasing the number of women who qualify for the benefits of APBI.
Prior to joining BioLucent, Anderson was Vice President, Oncology Services for Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, a premier teaching hospital and multi-healthcare network in northeastern Pennsylvania. Previously, as Vice President of Salick Health Care, Anderson led the company’s entry into the New York market and was responsible for developing a network of comprehensive cancer centers through unique partnerships with major academic and community-based medical centers. Anderson also serves on the Board of Directors of Solis Women’s Health. She received a B.A. in Finance and M.B.A. from Temple University.
