Tony Recupero Joins Spineology Board of Directors

Former Kyphon executive, Recupero brings extensive industry experience

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Spineology, Inc., manufacturer of the OptiMesh Deployable Grafting System and pioneer in developing minimally invasive spinal surgery devices, today announced the addition of Tony Recupero to its Board of Directors.

Recupero, widely recognized as a major contributor to Kyphon, Inc.’s commercial success, lends his experience to Spineology at a pivotal time.

“We are excited about Tony joining our board. Spineology is gaining significant traction in the marketplace, and we look forward to Tony’s insight and guidance as our commercialization efforts evolve,” said John Booth, chief executive officer of Spineology.

In 1999, Recupero joined then start-up company Kyphon, Inc., with $0 revenue and a limited sales force. By 2004, Recupero had grown the sales force to more than 225, with $213 million in revenue and a reputation as one of the strongest sales forces in the spinal device market. Prior to joining Kyphon, Recupero led the U.S. sales organization for Sulzer SpineTech, increasing revenues from $59 million to $103 million in a two-year period.

After leaving Kyphon, Recupero started Recupero Consulting Group and has subsequently lent his expertise to multiple spinal companies. In September 2007, Recupero co-founded and now serves as president and chief executive officer of Allievion Medical, Inc., an early stage medical device company focused on post-surgical pain management.

“Spineology’s product offerings have tremendous promise,” says Recupero. “The innovation and foresight of Spineology’s implants and surgical methods have the potential to change the industry, and I’m thrilled to be involved in the company’s growth strategy.”
