Gore Changes Landscape in Soft Tissue Repair With GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement

Gore Adds to Line of bioabsorbable Products With Alternative to Biologics

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) today announced the availability of GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement, a synthetic matrix material that encourages tissue generation in soft tissue reinforcement applications. Until now, the only non-woven, non-permanent options for tissue reinforcement were biologics, but Gore has changed the landscape by giving surgeons an attractive alternative that provides consistency and uniformity.

GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement is a uniquely designed web of biocompatible synthetic polymers that is gradually absorbed by the body, while its 3D matrix of open, highly interconnected pores serves as a scaffold for tissue generation. Gore’s bioabsorbable material technology is backed by 15 years of research and clinical use. The material is engineered to undergo hydrolytic and enzymatic degradation, leaving no permanent material in the body.

Since GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement is not derived from biologic tissue, there are no risks of disease transfer like those associated with human or animal tissue. Due to the synthetic nature of GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement, surgeons see an additional advantage over biologics in uniformity, thickness, and consistency. Clinical evidence demonstrates that the scaffold guides regeneration of favorable type I collagen.

“Gore is excited to deliver this new solution for tissue reinforcement. We now provide surgeons with a synthetic alternative to biologics made of a time-tested and proven material,” said Tiffany Brown, PhD, product specialist, Gore.

GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement is intended for use in the reinforcement of soft tissue and has a wide range of applications. Examples of applications include, but are not limited to, hernia repair (in non-load-bearing applications), muscle flap reinforcement, suture line reinforcement, and general tissue reconstructions.
