NeuroLogica Corp. Acquires DDP's Xenon CT Perfusion Technology
DANVERS, Mass.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--NeuroLogica Corporation announced that it will acquire all technology and assets for Xenon CT Perfusion from Diversified Diagnostic Products Inc. The combination of Portable CT and Xenon CT Perfusion, will now allow faster, more accurate and quantifiable information on cerebral blood flow in patients with a variety of neurological emergencies such as stroke and traumatic brain injury. The Xenon CT Perfusion technology, developed by Diversified Diagnostic Products, Inc. (DDP) located in Houston, Texas, is an important addition to NeuroLogica’s Portable CT functionality. The acquisition of the Xenon CT Perfusion (XeCT) technology enhances NeuroLogica’s Portable CT capabilities in the Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit and Operating Room while increasing the company’s core competency of providing improved patient safety and care by bringing the highest quality imaging technology directly to the patient’s bedside.
“The Xenon CT Perfusion product is a great clinical fit for NeuroLogica. The CereTom® portable CT combined with the XeCT package is an extremely valuable diagnostic tool in monitoring patients with traumatic brain injury. The ability to acquire quantitative Xenon studies in the ICU at the bedside is changing the way we assess cerebral blood flow in these critically ill patients. This combination of technology will advance NeuroLogica’s vision of the right technology, for the right patient, at the right time.” said Dr. Colin McDonald, Medical Director for NeuroLogica Corporation.
Xenon CT Perfusion, though used under IRB permission in the United States, is considered the gold standard in measuring cerebral blood flow in most of the world. “With this acquisition, the software developed 20 years ago at the University of Pittsburgh has now been mated with the CT and the modern computer technology needed to optimize the methodology. Access to rapidly repeatable cerebral blood flow studies at the bedside of critically ill patients has the potential to answer many of the questions central to neurological critical care. Integration of tomographic quantitative cerebral blood flow with continuous probe data should prove to be an ideal combination for guiding the care of patients with stroke, trauma and vascular disorders,” commented Dr. Howard Yonas, Chairman of Neurosurgery at the University of New Mexico.
The CereTom is a portable eight slice CT scanner that can be used in the ICU, ER, OR, NICU, MICU, SICU, interventional suite, or any medical clinic. The CereTom is compact and lightweight; only 29 inches (74 cm) deep, five feet (153 cm) tall and four feet (134 cm) wide and weighs approximately 750 pounds (341kg). It is being used by leading hospitals and medical centers around the world.
