GORE-TEX(R) Suture Now Designed for Use with CAPIO(R) Suture Capturing Devices

Proven Surgical Suture Optimizes Suturing in Gynecological Procedures

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) today announced the availability of a new GORE-TEX® Suture compatible with the CAPIO® CL Transvaginal, Open Access and Standard Suture Capturing Devices from Boston Scientific. GORE-TEX® Suture has been used by vascular and general surgeons since 1987, and is now available to urogynecologists for use with the Boston Scientific capturing devices to help ease procedures and enhance patient comfort in gynecological procedures.

GORE-TEX® Suture is a unique, microporous, nonabsorbable monofilament made of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). GORE-TEX® Suture is the suture of choice for gynecological procedures because it is soft and compliant and the monofilament ePTFE thread fosters a benign tissue response. It also minimizes friction and enables precise knot positioning.

According to Joseph T. Stubbs III, MD, of the Savannah Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Center in Savannah, Georgia, “ePTFE sutures can cause less patient discomfort during healing and lower the risk of infection. I am motivated by the opportunity to use GORE-TEX® Suture in combination with the CAPIO® Capturing Devices in my practice.” Dr. Stubbs is an urogynecologic surgeon and vice-president of the of the Society of Pelvic Reconstructive Surgeons (SPRS).

GORE-TEX® Suture is proven to optimize suturing in soft tissue approximation. GORE-TEX® Suture is soft and supple for excellent handling and minimizes the irritation caused by knots. Suture choice plays an important part in achieving an optimal soft tissue approximation, particularly where reduced capsule formation and inflammation are key considerations.

The CAPIO® Suture Capturing Devices are designed to improve ease-of-use by automatically throwing, catching and retrieving the suture. The devices are available for both vaginal approach and laparoscopic approach.

“Gore is excited to bring this new surgical option to the urogynecological field. We can now provide the market with the opportunity to use both the premiere suture and capturing devices to achieve the highest degree of efficiency for gynecological procedures,” said Carrie Ortiz, product specialist at Gore.
