Nihon Kohden America, Inc. Continues Quest to Help Hospitals Save Lives and Avoid Costs with New Products at NTI 2008
IRVINE, Calif.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Nihon Kohden America, Inc. is unveiling two new patient monitoring systems at the National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in Chicago, Ill., May 3–8, 2008. Both products represent the ingenuity and attentiveness that Nihon Kohden demonstrates in response to the latest needs of hospitals.The first solution has created a new category within patient monitoring that Nihon Kohden has named “Defensive Monitoring™.” The Prefense™ Early Detection and Notification System™, which recently received 510K clearance from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, is designed to protect hospital patients from medical harm and enhance the efficiency of Rapid Response Teams. It consists of a new, low acuity central station interface that is simple, easy to use and cost-effective, combined with the company’s NTX wireless telemetry transmitters. Prefense allows hospital patients to freely ambulate while measuring heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and respiration—4 of the 7 critical parameters that trigger a Rapid Response Team.
As the 5 Million Lives Campaign has demonstrated, every patient in the hospital qualifies as a high risk patient, not just those in conventionally monitored areas such as critical care or telemetry. Yet traditionally, and primarily due to cost and staffing issues, continuous monitoring and observation takes place only in monitoring units. That creates significant risk exposure among the large number of patients in Med/Surg wards, where many of the 15 million instances of medical harm occur each year. The Prefense Early Detection and Notification System™ is the only solution currently available that allows hospitals to cost-effectively monitor every patient.
The second new lineup of products to make its debut at NTI is Nihon Kohden's new 6000 series of bedside monitors. This new series of monitors forms the foundation of their enterprise wide monitoring system. This new system provides all of the comprehensive review and recall capabilities, which until now have traditionally only been available at central station locations. During transport, the totality of patient data is collected and transferred as well, ensuring a complete patient record.
