Gore Announces New Configuration of GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement for Hiatal Hernia Repair

Gore adds thinner, more flexible, custom size bioabsorbable product

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) today announced a new configuration of GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement for hiatal hernia repair. GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement is a synthetic matrix material that encourages tissue generation in soft tissue reinforcement applications.

The new configuration of GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement is custom shaped with a thinner design to provide surgeons a superior solution for the unique challenges faced in hiatal hernia repair. Gore’s bioabsorbable material technology is backed by 15 years of research and clinical use.

GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement is a uniquely designed web of biocompatible synthetic polymers that is gradually absorbed by the body, while its 3D matrix of open, highly interconnected pores serves as a scaffold for tissue generation. The material is engineered to undergo hydrolytic and enzymatic degradation, leaving no permanent material in the body. The only non-woven, non-permanent options for tissue reinforcement were biologics, but now, GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement has provided an attractive alternative. Due to the synthetic nature of the product, surgeons see an additional advantage over biologics in uniformity, thickness and consistency.

“With a growing need for reinforcement in hiatal hernia repair, the new configuration of GORE BIO-A Tissue Reinforcement provides an attractive alternative with a custom shape and handling tailored for placement around the esophagus,” said Tiffany Brown, Ph.D., Gore Product Specialist.
