IRX Therapeutics Names Scott M. Freeman, M.D. Chief Operating Officer

NEW YORK--(HSMN NewsFeed)--IRX Therapeutics, a privately-held company dedicated to the discovery and development of proprietary drugs for the treatment of cancer and viral diseases, today announced the appointment of Scott M. Freeman, M.D. as Chief Operating Officer. He has been a Senior Medical Advisor to IRX since 2007.

Prior to joining IRX, Dr. Freeman served as Vice President of Clinical Development at Onyx Pharmaceutical from 2001 to 2006 where he oversaw the head and neck as well as renal cell, melanoma, and colorectal cancer clinical trials and successfully ran Phase 1, 2, and 3 studies. He was a key leader in the clinical development and regulatory strategy which lead to FDA approval of Nexavar for kidney and liver cancer. From 1998 to 2001, he held the title of Clinical Project Director at Schering-Plough Research Institute where his clinical projects included an anti-estrogen program, a breast cancer treatment, and a P53 gene therapy program trial. From 1992 to 1998, Dr. Freeman held the position of Associate Professor at Tulane University where he also served as the Medical Director of the Blood Center. He was also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Rochester from 1992 to 1998.

Dr. Freeman has been published in a book and sixty-four publications, developed four clinical protocols, and holds two patents. In 1978, Dr. Freeman earned his BA from the University of Colorado and received his MD from the University of Nevada in 1983. Dr. Freeman completed an internship at the University of Minnesota where he also completed his residency in clinical pathology.
