Scient'x Launches Tribeca(TM) TLIF Cage System

MAITLAND, Fla., Sept. 19 (HSMN NewsFeed) -- Scient'x, a privately held manufacturer of innovative spinal implant technologies, announced today the launch of the Tribeca(TM) Cage System which allows the surgeon to utilize a unilateral transforaminal approach to interbody cage insertion to minimize dural exposure.

The Scient'x Tribeca(TM) Cage implants are indicated for use with autogenous bone graft as an intervertebral body fusion device at either one or two contiguous levels in the lumbosacral spine, from L2 to S1, for the treatment of Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) with up to Grade I spondylolisthesis. DDD is defined as back pain of discogenic origin with degeneration of the disc confirmed by history and radiographic studies. The Tribeca(TM) Cage is to be used in skeletally mature patients who have had six months of non-operative care. The Tribeca(TM) Cage is implanted using an anterior approach or posterior approach and is intended to be used single or in pairs with ISOBAR 6.2mm Hemispherical Screws with Offset Clamps and 5.5mm Rods. The implant design features PEEK OPTIMA material with gold marker wire to aid in visualization of implant placement on radiographs. The convex design and open graft areas allow graft vascularization and the bulleted tip provides easy insertion.

"The Tribeca(TM) Cage was designed to be a user-friendly solution to a transforaminal approach," said Dr. Antonio Castellvi, one of the designing surgeons from Tampa, Florida. "It offers four different angles of insertion which gives the surgeon intra-operative options for placement of the device." Dr. Marc A. Weinstein, another designing surgeon from Clearwater, Florida commented, "There are twenty four different sizes offered in this system, which gives me a great amount of flexibility in adapting to unique patient anatomy. In addition, the disc removal instruments designed for use with the Tribeca allow excellent disc space preparation to enhance the environment for successful spinal fusion."

Chief Executive Officer, Michael Huggins commented, "I am excited about this product launch; the Tribeca(TM) Cage System offers innovative features and surgeon-friendly instrumentation, and will be a key addition to the Scient'x product portfolio." The Tribeca(TM) Cage System joins a broad global family of interbody fusion devices offered by Scient'x.

The current US market for Thoracolumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF) spinal implants is significant and expected to experience strong growth during the next five years. The Company expects that the launch of the Tribeca(TM) Cage System, along with several additional launches in 2008 and 2009, will build the Company's existing portfolio of technologies and will help accelerate the Company's growth in the US Market and strengthen its global position.
