Nihon Kohden Announces Acquisition of Neurotronics Inc.

TOKYO, JAPAN - (HSMN NewsFeed) - Nihon Kohden Corporation (President: Fumio Suzuki) today announced the conclusion of a Stock Purchase Agreement for the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Neurotronics Incorporated (Headquarters: Gainesville, Florida, President: Jack Smith). Neurotronics will become a subsidiary of Nihon Kohden Corporation. The transfer day is December 31, 2008.

Although sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) has attracted attention in recent years, there are not many patients who are receiving continuous treatment for SAS. The number of potential patients is thought to be about two million in Japan, and it is forecast that PSG testing(1) that uses sleep brain wave analysis software to diagnose SAS will spread rapidly in the future.

Both Nihon Kohden and Neurotronics have worked for many years as valuable partners in sleep respiratory business. This partnership will strengthen development and the post-sales support of a product for the expanding sleep respiratory market by uniting the cranial nerve instrumentation technology of Nihon Kohden and the sleep brain wave analysis technology of Neurotronics with this purchase. Moreover, worldwide sales of the two company's products are expected to increase by using the global sales network of Nihon Kohden.

(1) PSG testing (Polysomnography all-night sleep polygraph testing): Testing of the patient to diagnose sleep respiratory problems. During an overnight stay, patient data is recorded during sleep for analysis and evaluation by a trained technician.
