Incisive Surgical to Launch New, Stronger Absorbable Skin Staple at American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Meeting
Announces Significant Abstract Presentation at AAOS MeetingMINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 23 -- (Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network) -- Incisive Surgical, Inc. today announced that it will launch a new version of the INSORB® Absorbable Staple at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons being held in Las Vegas from February 23 - 25, 2009. The INSORB|25 Skin Stapler is a patented medical device that places Absorbable Staples underneath the skin to close surgical incisions. The INSORB Absorbable Skin Staple is comprised of a biocompatible material, which is absorbed over a period of a few months. The new version of the Absorbable Staple is 25% stronger resulting in improved wound integrity. In addition, a significant abstract will be presented at the meeting: "A Randomized Prospective Study of Total Hip Wound Closure with Resorbable Subcuticular Staples", David A. Fisher, M.D., et al, OrthoIndy Research Foundation.
"We are very proud of our engineering team who has redesigned the INSORB Absorbable Staple with an increased strength of 25% without making changes to the polymer, staple dimensions or absorption profile," said John L. Shannon, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Incisive Surgical. "As well, we are pleased with the results of the randomized prospective study of hip closures with the INSORB Stapler. The authors of this study concluded: 'A resorbable [skin] staple system can provide comparable wound closure to stainless steel staples following Total Hip Replacement and may do so with less local discomfort or [inflammatory] reaction.'"
"The INSORB Absorbable Skin Stapler represents a revolutionary new skin closure technology, offering unique benefits to patients, clinicians and hospitals. The INSORB|25 Absorbable Skin Stapler combines the convenience, comfort and cosmetic result associated with absorbable suture with the rapid closure times associated with metal skin staplers, and eliminates the need to remove metal staples post-operatively. Incisive Surgical has received many national awards, including a Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award in the medical devices industry category which recognizes the profound value proposition of our technology."
