Covidien Announces U.S. Launch of Puritan Bennett 540 Portable VentilatorQuiet, Lightweight Device Enables Patients to Pursue Daily Activities with Confidence
BOULDER, Colo.--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Covidien (NYSE: COV, BSX: COV), a leading global supplier of healthcare products, today announced the U.S. launch of the Puritan Bennett 540 portable ventilator.
The quiet, lightweight ventilator runs on a lithium-ion battery that provides up to 11 hours1 (depending on settings and other factors) of power and features a real-time battery life indicator that is a significant technological advancement. The indicator displays remaining battery life in hours and minutes, instead of as a percentage of charge, eliminating guesswork about when the ventilator needs to be connected to a power source for recharging.
The portability, long battery life and ease of use of the Puritan Bennett 540 ventilator enables a ventilator-dependent patient to pursue daily activities with confidence and peace of mind, ultimately enhancing quality of life.
We believe mechanical ventilators should not just assist breathing, but also enable ventilator-dependent patients to enjoy life to their fullest capacity, which is why Covidien is excited to introduce the Puritan Bennett 540 ventilator, said Chris Hutchison, Vice President and Global General Manager for Sleep and Oxygen Products, Covidien. The Puritan Bennett 540 ventilator gives users a sense of confidence and security because of its innovative technology, reliability and convenience.
At 9.9 pounds, the Puritan Bennett 540 ventilator is compact and light. It comes with a dual bag, making it easy to carry by hand and in a backpack, or to attach to a wheelchair. A car charger and an external battery are also available for the unit, so the ventilator can be charged or used during road travel.
The ventilator also features a quick and reactive flow trigger for patient comfort, minimizing the work of breathing, with the added benefit of the patient being able to set PEEP (positive end expiratory pressure).
The Puritan Bennett 540 ventilator can be used by patients of all ages adults, children and infants as small as 11 pounds. The device is ideal for intra-hospital transport and for use in long-term care facilities, as well as in long-term home care.
