Neurosurgeons from around the world gather at PLA 301 Hospital in China
WINNIPEG, April 8 (Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network) - IMRIS Inc. (TSX: IM ; "IMRIS" or the "Company") participated in China's first international conference on intra-operative MR held at PLA 301 Hospital in Beijing on April 5, 2009. Over 300 neurosurgeons from China, USA, Germany, Taiwan and Hong Kong attended the inaugural event that focused on developments in intra-operative MR for neurosurgery. The conference was opened by Dir Chen Xiaohong, Director of PLA 301, and featured scientific presentations from Peter Black, Professor of Neurosurgery, Harvard Medical School, Christopher Nimsky, Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery, University Marburg, and Michael Buchfelder, Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery, University of Erlangen.PLA 301's neurosurgical team completed its first procedure on February 23, 2009, and completed five procedures in the first week of operation. In the six weeks since installation of the IMRISneuro suite, the team treated 43 patients suffering with glioma or epilepsy. While PLA 301 is widely-recognized for performing at the highest of global clinical standards, Dr. Xu Bainan, Chairman of Neurosurgery, said: "IMRIS has significantly advanced our neurosurgical capabilities and the system is contributing directly to our hospital's reputation as a world-class facility."
