Tornier Expands Sports Medicine Franchise with T.A.G. Medical Products Partnership

ArthroTunneler(TM) to Join Tornier’s Piton(TM) and Insite(TM) Soft Tissue Anchors

EDINA, MINNESOTA – May 14, 2009 - (HSMN NewsFeed) - Tornier, Inc., a global leader in extremities orthopaedics, announced today that it entered into a definitive agreement to exclusively license the ArthroTunneler(TM) Arthroscopic Transosseous Bone Tunneling System from T.A.G. Medical Products Corporation Ltd. (“T.A.G."). T.A.G. is a global developer and manufacturer of surgical devices with extensive experience in arthroscopic sports medicine products. Tornier recently entered the sports medicine market with its line of Piton(TM) and Insite(TM) soft tissue anchors and its Conexa(TM) Reconstructive Tissue Matrix.

The ArthroTunneler, co-developed with Sumant “Butch” Krishnan, MD, is a novel, sterile, single-use device that enables surgeons to arthroscopically place precise intersecting tunnels in bone to facilitate all-arthroscopic transosseous rotator cuff repair with no implants or anchors. A select group of evaluating surgeons has successfully performed over 300 rotator cuff repair surgeries using the ArthroTunneler since January, 2008. Tornier believes the ArthroTunneler is the first commercial device designed specifically for arthroscopic transosseous rotator cuff repair.

Dr. Krishnan commented, “Our goal was to improve the standard of care for rotator cuff repair with all-arthroscopic transosseous fixation. Numerous studies have demonstrated that transosseous fixation allows restoration of the footprint contact area of the rotator cuff and is biomechanically superior to anchor fixation. Until now, true transosseous fixation has been difficult to achieve arthroscopically. The ArthroTunneler provides transosseous fixation similar to that achieved with open surgery, while utilizing a less invasive all-arthroscopic technique. This device also facilitates bone tunnel suture placement for mini-open cuff repairs, biceps tenodeses, and subscapularis repairs, if surgeons so desire.”

Doug Kohrs, President and CEO of Tornier, commented, “We are excited about our partnership with a well known innovator like T.A.G. The ArthroTunneler is a truly unique technology that reflects Tornier’s continued commitment to providing novel and cost-effective solutions for shoulder repair and replacement.”

The T.A.G. partnership to commercialize the ArthroTunneler continues Tornier’s commitment to be a leader in the sports medicine and soft tissue repair markets. Since 2006 Tornier has completed several acquisition and partnership agreements that culminated in the initial launch of the company’s Sports Medicine portfolio at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ annual meeting earlier this year. Tornier’s Sports Medicine platform offers a broad range of extremity soft tissue treatment options including the Piton Knotless Suture Anchor with Cinch(TM) technology, the Insite family of Polymer, Bioabsorbable, and Titanium Suture Anchors, the Conexa Reconstructive Tissue Matrix, and high strength ForceFiber® suture.
