Entellus Medical(R) Launches the XprESS Multi-Sinus Dilation Tool at COSM 2010 Annual Meeting

XprESS Features Easy-to-Use Design and the Ability to Treat Multiple Sinuses With One Device

MINNEAPOLIS--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Entellus Medical, a Minnesota-based medical technology company, today announced the launch of its XprESS™ Multi-Sinus Dilation Tool during the Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings (COSM) in Las Vegas. The Entellus XprESS Multi-Sinus Dilation Tool, which received FDA clearance in February 2010, offers Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeons a new Balloon catheter-based technology for dilating frontal and sphenoid sinus spaces during sinus surgery for the treatment of chronic sinusitis.

Experts estimate that in the U.S., close to 37 million adults suffer from sinusitis and various sources estimate between 300,000 and 500,000 sinus surgical procedures are performed every year to open narrowed sinus pathways and relieve sinusitis symptoms.

ENT surgeons today use a curved sinus seeker as a tool to locate the narrowed opening of a diseased sinus. They then often employ traditional cutting instruments to remove tissue, widen the sinus openings and improve mucous drainage. The Entellus XprESS device features a dilation balloon that slides over a curved sinus seeker allowing an ENT surgeon to enlarge narrowed sinus openings by inflating the balloon.

The XprESS design makes the device both intuitive and easy to use, and an integrated suction feature improves visibility and efficiency for the ENT surgeon. The XprESS device includes a reshapeable tip, allowing ENT surgeons to dilate and enlarge multiple sinus openings with a single, less-invasive dilation tool. XprESS is also used in conjunction with traditional sinus surgery tools.

“We are excited to offer ENT surgeons a new, easy-to-use alternative to treat chronic sinusitis,” said Brian Farley, president and CEO of Entellus Medical. “We believe our XprESS device nicely complements the surgeon’s traditional set of sinus surgery tools by enlarging narrowed sinus pathways with less tissue disruption.”
