Entellus Medical(TM) Study Demonstrates XprESS(TM) Multi-Sinus Dilation Tool Safe and Effective in Treatment of Chronic Sinusitis
MINNEAPOLIS--(Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network)-- Results presented by Dr. David Brodner today during the annual Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meeting in Chicago demonstrate that Entellus Medical’s XprESS Multi-Sinus Dilation Tool may be used safely and with a high technical success rate in conjunction with traditional functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) tools to treat patients with chronic sinusitis. Further, one-month data show patients experience a statistically significant improvement in quality of life related to their sinusitis symptoms. The presentation, entitled “Initial Results of a Novel, Multi-Functional, Multi-Sinus Balloon Dilation Tool,” reviewed the data from a prospective study of 50 patients who underwent balloon dilation of the frontal recess and/or sphenoid sinus ostia. In 98% of procedures, doctors were able to successfully dilate the targeted sinuses. XprESS demonstrated an excellent safety profile, as no serious adverse events were reported. Follow-up on this population will continue at six and 12 months to affirm durability of symptom improvement and patency of the sinuses treated with balloon dilation.
The Entellus XprESS Multi-Sinus Dilation Tool is used for the treatment of the frontal, sphenoid and maxillary sinuses either alone or as part of a traditional FESS. XprESS combines a balloon catheter with a malleable sinus seeker that can be customized based on patient anatomy, and enables a physician to cost-effectively access and use balloon dilation to treat multiple sinuses with a single device while potentially reducing the amount of tissue loss as compared to traditional FESS procedures.123
According to Dr. Brodner, “XprESS is an easy-to-use technology that provides physicians with a versatile, more ergonomic tool to treat chronic sinusitis patients, and these early results demonstrate that XprESS is safe and provides patients relief from sinusitis-related symptoms.”
