This dual treatment protocol, combining both TENS and NMES, was tested by the Center for Neurologic Study and published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The combined treatment of NMES and TENS was shown to be superior to the control group, stand-alone NMES and stand-alone TENS on both pain relief and pain reduction metrics.
