DelRey ENT Associates Enhances the Care and Comfort of Tonsillectomy Patients with Thermal Fusion Technology

MiFusion ENTceps® minimizes tissue damage to reduce pain and speed healing

MARINA DEL REY, Calif.--(Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network)--Tonsillectomy patients in the Los Angeles area can put aside those tubs of ice cream thanks to a novel surgical device that reduces the pain associated with the procedure. Farhad Sigari, M.D., FACS of DelRey ENT Associates is using the device, called MiFusion ENTceps®, to remove tonsils quickly and safely with minimal damage to nearby tissue.

While tonsillectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures, patients often report that it is also one of the most painful. Conventional devices used to perform tonsillectomies transmit electrical energy through the patient or tissue, which can damage surrounding tissue and cause excessive bleeding and intense post-operative pain. As a result, it can take days or even weeks for a patient to fully recover and resume his or her normal life.

Unlike conventional devices, MiFusion ENTceps employs an advanced, proprietary technology, called Thermal Fusion (also known as Tissue Welding), to remove the tonsils and simultaneously seal the tissue from which they were removed. Because the device uses only pure heat and pressure, it minimizes tissue damage, resulting in improved patient outcomes. Studies have shown that patients who have undergone MiFusion ENTceps tonsillectomies experience less pain and bleeding compared with other surgical techniques.1,2

While practicing in the Chicago-area, Dr. Sigari performed over 500 tonsillectomies using Thermal Fusion technology. He relocated his practice to Marina Del Rey in 2011 and is now offering MiFusion ENTceps tonsillectomies to patients in the greater Los Angeles area and beyond.

“With ENTceps, my patients report significantly less pain, earlier return to work and a decreased risk of the dreaded post-tonsillectomy bleeding,” said Dr. Sigari. “Patients have been so pleased with their recoveries that they are calling the technique the ‘Painless Tonsillectomy’.”

One of Dr. Sigari’s patients, Eric Larsen of Santa Clarita, Calif., drove nearly two hours in traffic to have Dr. Sigari perform a Thermal Fusion tonsillectomy because there were no surgeons in his area performing the technique. Dr. Sigari removed Larsen’s tonsils with MiFusion ENTceps and the next day, Larsen was able to return to work.

“I can’t imagine anyone putting themselves through a standard tonsillectomy,” said Larsen. “My daughter had one 12 years ago and she was miserable – she was crying, it was painful, she couldn’t eat right – although she was little at the time she still remembers the experience. Following my Thermal Fusion tonsillectomy, the pain level was equivalent to a sore throat. I had no bleeding and was fully recovered in just one week. The technique is far superior to what is standard out there right now.”

Larsen documented his tonsillectomy recovery and the video can be viewed on YouTube.
